I taught myself how to design, build, and repair computers, and I am in ITT Tech going for a Bachelor's of Science major in Information Systems Security, so I know how computers work. Also, you need to read up on Autism and how it affects people. Do that, then I will let you laugh in my face about having supersensitive hearing.

Computer Science at UF > ITT Tech and UF isnt even known for its computer science and engineering.

Seriously, if you cant hear the difference between CD and compressed 64kbps your hearing isnt sensetive, it's almost gone. Research how hearling loss happens, I'm not even kidding. People who are going deff can hear certian frequincy bands REALLY well and others are muffled or non existant.

Then you DON"T have super sensitive hearing. The differences are VERY obvious to the majority of people with REGULAR hearing.

what is it with you and sony?

because it sounds 'just as good' to you doesn't mean it sounds the same. atrac3plus placed a priority on higher frequencies, where low bitrate mp3 encoders usually place an emphasis on midrange frequencies and end up sounding 'muddy' either way you slice it, it's an incomplete transfer, there is much material lost with either codec

if i dropped $500 on an ipod, i'd sure as shit be talking ogg up

and if i spent a bunch of money on sony products... well you already know all about that

64kbit/s atrac3plus sounds better than an mp3 of the same bitrate, it's true, but to say it sounds the same as the original cd is completely absurd

Well, obviously you guys obviously do not know much about ATRAC3plus. ATRAC3plus is to mp3's what CDs were to tapes. ATRAC3plus is superior to both MP3 and WMA formats. Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding3plus, is an advanced compression technology that can compress a CD to 1/22 its normal size (63.475kbps, or about 64kbps, which is the bitrate I use). It is superior to MP3 in that it maintains higher quality at lower bitrates.

Heyman, I have talked to the installers at circuit city, and they said that 64kbps ATRAC3plus sounded the same as "high-bitrate mp3". The equipment I use on my home computer (where I rip, store and burn all my music) is why its hard for me to tell the difference between a store-bought CD and ATRAC3plus. The equipment is SonicStage Digital Music Manager version 4.0, the Turtle Beach Montego DDL soundcard, the Turtle Beach EarForce HPA 5.1 channel headphones, and a Monster Cable Home Theater Power Center HTS800 with Monster CleanPower Stage 1 technology, which is designed to clean up 95% of the EMI and RFI in the AC Utility lines. The Montego DDL's stats are a frequency response of 10Hz to 120kHz with 0.0247%THD and a signal-to-noise ratio of 96dB. saying it is better then mp3 isnt say much and it is still compression no matter what way you look at it so information is still lost ....look at it this way

i am 6'9 say you were trying to stuff me in to a 4' box ...the only way this is possible is to remove parts of me so i can be small enough to fit in the box ...this is exactly what compression is doing even if it is a better form of compression just because you cannot tell the difference does not mean there is no difference.

atrac-3 is a perversion of sony's initial mission with the atrac encoding standard to sacrifice vast amounts of recorded data for higher compression and higher capacity, it's basically sony selling out and buying into the mp3-player hype, and naturally, they're going to tell you it's 'the bomb'

I will only say this one more time for the people in the cheap seats(yes you).

NO ONE IS ARGUING THE SUPERIORITY OF ATRAC AGAINST OTHER COMPRESSED FORMATS. THEY ARE ARGUING THAT IT DOESN'T COMPARE TO THE ACUTAL CD IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.
