Sound Leakage in Vintage Car?

Im in the process of putting a system in my 1973 Plymouth duster. My concern is, will all of my bass like "leak" out of places? I plan on putting the subs in my trunk. The old cars are obviously not as seal proof as newer.

Not really sure how to explain what Im asking, but maybe someone does...

Thanks

I get what your saying - like having an air leak in a sealed box - you can proly just fix it by getting newer seals for all around your trunk, i think it would help if you had your subs firing towards the front even thought some of ur bass will be muffled.

dynamat the panels in it...it will help a lot...if you watch some of the car shows..like Overhaulin' or Unique Whips...you'll notice on the older cars they Dynamat them from top to bottom on the inside...I'm gonna use a Spray in bedliner type material in the trunk and floors of my Grand National and Dynamat the doors

Well my truck is just thin metal. Like there is nothing between the trunk and the outside metal, its the same peice of metal. Whats the best place to buy this dynamat stuff? Found this on google and the truck kit is $190...http://www.dynamat.com/store/store-car.asp

Is it a spray or is it pieces?

edit - ahh looks like its "sheet" like. How hard is it to cut to specific?

Your sound wont leak all that much. You should have the twisty things under your trunk lid (adjusts the height at which your trunk sits) adjust those out some and it will make your trunk seal really tight and help with rattles and such. Also a quick fix would be to add some foam pipe insulator around your weatherstripping, for a quick fix. Unless youre making a show car or something. I just did an install on a 68 pontiac catalina and had to do that as well as a bunch of caulking and dynamatting and etc. Your rear deck is gonna flex like a mofo btw. Always happens in old cars.

Btw, youre gonna have to run all new speaker wires, and new power wires to the deck, as those were common ground decks, with just one ignition 12v wire. And your best bet is to just replace the ash tray with the new stereo, alot of cutting and shit to get the old one out if its anything similar to the older cars ive worked on. Plus keeps it original if you wanna sell it

An easy trick is to line the trunk lid with wax paper where the seal would be made. ( making the alignment as tite as possible) then put some clear silicone (not caulk) on top of the original seal. Make a good solid line. Shut the trunk till its in the locked position. Wait 24 hours, open the trunk, remove the wax paper, (it wont stick to the silicone,) then you will have an air tite seal.

And clean the rubber seal with alcahol for a good bond.

if you get the spray i have used cascade and been happy. I used a lot of matt and liquid, some places like the trunk liquid then mat in the doors. just an easy way for me and the spray on also rolls on easy.
