Mass loading almost never works in a vehicle. It is a widely used technique but only when the goal is to move a body's resonant frequency below a narrow band. You need to quadruple mass for every octave down in resonant frequency. If you're starting with a vehicle panel that weighs 4 pounds and is resonant at 800 Hz and want to get it below the audible range, well ... do the arithmetic. You'll be driving a tank.
Where a small shift will do the job, either adding mass - to lower resonant frequency or stiffening the panel, to raise it, might work. You wouldn't want to do both since the shifts would be offsetting. That's another problem with using these products to add mass - there's always some panel reinforcement going on at the same time.
