Sound deadener ?

Does anyone have a suggestion , and please be specific ! Too stop a trunk from rattling ? i have seen some people use expandable foam and sound deadening material, is it safe to use the foam inside the trunk lid ? and what is the absolute cheapest material to use ? Thanx !!
