Sound Deadener

so the only difference in the second skin(80 mil),raamat(60 mil) and e-dead(say about 35 mils) is the mils and the price
edead comes from eD which is a garbage company and after a few summers your deadener will look like this

I was going to order some raammat this year but the owner was out of town a while so I ordered enough of the new edead to do me. Then the raammat owner called me when he got back into town, he was knowedgable and nice and I went ahead and ordered some from him to do the rest of my car. I did my driver door in the new edead and the pass door with raammat. Equal amounts on both doors. I could not tell a difference in the thickness of either of them. the raamat seemed to be more sticky but was much more messy as well. The edead has held up just as well so far. Neither have come separated from the door anywhere. Edead is a little easier to work with but it does have the mylar backing while raamat has the Al version. There is no noticable difference in the sound of the two doors. When I tap the outside of the doors it sounds like the edead door has less resonance but both sound deep and sound the exact same musically.

There was a big difference in the ensolite vs the other foam cell. The edead version is twice as thick and is self adhesive. It was a total PITA to install the raamat version and the glue gets everywhere and doesn't come out easy if you get it on seats. i do not know if the thickness of this foam cell matters but the edead wins by a mile based on its ease of use alone. Again, both have stuck equally well

In the end, they both sound the same to me and both have held up extremely well. I was going to run some tests to determine the mass of equal sizes of each and take samples to work to run under the spectrophotometer to see if I could better determine the composition of each but what would that prove? In my opinion, it comes down to personal choice. Some people hate eD, if that's the case, buy raamat. If you'd like to save a few bucks, give eD a try. The guy from raamat was very helpful. I think his name was Rick and he talked to me for a long time about it so i give them the technical support award which is very important. HIs instructions were very good and if you're new to it, that may be teh deciding factor. IMO, They both did an equally effective job.

edit: I looked up the proer names of these materials. The ed mat I used was the V1SE^2. The raamaudio version was called Raamat BXT. eD's version of foam cell was called TekLite and Raam's version was called Ensolite.

Does the V1SE^2 have the aluminum or mylar backing?

btw if anyone wants to get more precise measurements of their deadener cut multiple strips from a smooth section, stick (stack) them together, measure it with dial calipers if you have them and divide by that number. I used 8 strips in my previous post and dial calipers accurate to about .001".

Mine had mylar backing. They're both rated at 60 mils, raammat and eD. They both felt like the same thickness but I'm sure there is some variation.
