Sony Xplod Amplfier 760 watts in Ford Explorer

Im new to car audio and I have sorta an idea how to put it together. If anyone knows if this sony amplifer, i believe its 760 watts max will be too much for my alternator. I have never put in a high wattage amp (200+ watt) but already have a 75x4 amplifer that I installed myself with the explorer (94'). I have no problems running that amp and the Pioneer DH7300 headunit. It runs the polk 5x7's that are in the car.

I haven't installed the new sony amp which is to push two mtx 12" subs. The subs are rated at 200 watts rms...so they should go alright with the amp which i think pushes 200 watts RMS x 2. If anyone thinks that this amp is too much for the alternator and has any suggestions or experience on this issue please let me know.

its a new Sony Xplod XM-2150GSX 760 watt max amp...

Any help that i can get will be appriciated...

dood, dont worry aboot that Sony amp putting out 760 watts or draining that bad.

That amp puts out nowhere near what they claim, In fact, almost none of the Sony stuff does, and their amps are VERY highly overrated

I have a very similar sony amp for 2 10" RF HE's... Its a wonderfull amp for my HE's... dont worry about ur alt if its the only amp ur running....

I also have a ford explorer and I just bought that amp with a single RF HE 10 inch sub. I have it bridged, and with some songs with deep and loud bass it keeps going into offset mode. Any one know why it does this? I am thinkin of replacing it with a RF 400S amp tonite.

Yeh you could probably have 4 or more of those sony amplifiers in there and not need to worry about the alternator, if you see your lights dimming, get a deep cycle battery. You should probably get a cap if you are going to run 2 amps, just to be sure you have constant power flow

chinsik,

If you are running that amp bridged to an rf he 10", then i think your pushing too much power into it.. it is only rated at 400 watts peak (200 rms) which means ur pushing it with 400 watts rms... 200 more watts then its rated. i have that amp pyushing 2 rf he's.

good luck

Yeah i know i got 380 into it. I dont really play it at high volumes. Does it push a 380 constantly or only when its cranked? I never understood that concept.

You only put out X watts at any given time, based on the volume settings (kinda).. when you have the stereo down low, you aren't pushing 300 Watts to it, only like 40 - 50.. as you turn it up, more current flows to the speakers to make them move farther and produce 'louder' sounds (the peak between waves is the amplitude, the higher the amplitude the louder it is)..

At low volumes you aren not running at much power to the speaker as with louder volumes... Does that make sense?
