something smells fishy :(

well the factory says 1000w at 1 ohm. 16v tho. i have stock system besides big 3. so I'm not pushing 16v. so I'm not sure exactly what wattage the amp is pushing. i set my gain barely under what i would set for 1000w. i think at like 30v..

1000 is not a lot of power. I had 1500 rms on my 3" coil sub with no problems...
exactly so idk y the sub is smelling so bad... or the amp or w/e it is.... i haven't rele messed with my filters too much. and I'm none rele sure how to. any a dive for that?

Where did you get the songs you played from? My guess would be the songs themselves are clipped.
youtube mp3 converter for most. others r straight from iTunes.

Yeah and the OP isn't running 1000 RMS either...
so what should i set it at?

What do you have the gain set at right now? check and see what the volatage is to the sub. Without knowing exactly where your hu is clipping that may be a cause too. It could be alot of things, IMO turn the gain down a little and see if that helps. If it were me I would play it safe until I figured out what the problem was.

That's your problem, converting songs off of youtube. Those songs are more than likely clipped to hell. why would you use youtube to get music?

ik pol put them on a lot more. and i know for a fact i am not giving the sub 1000w. and dirty power, I'm not rele sure... lol. and where did the 1200w continuos thing with the 3 inch coil come from?? lol
Your sig says 1300 something or other so I'm assuming the amp is supposed to do 1300W. The point is your sub has a 2.5" coil and 1000W even is more than it's thermal limits. Considering you're pushing it to the point where it smells funny I'm guessing you probably want more power to be satisfied with the output. For this you may want to consider a woofer with a 3" or even 4" coil.

1000W is a lot of power.... that's about what an element on an electric stove top uses. I had 6KW on a 3" coil sub this winter with "no problem"..... of course that's impedence rising to around 30 ohm and me knowing when to back off on the volume. Clamp a 1500W sine wave at around 55hz to that woofer and let her go for an hour and let me know how it works out for you.

Exactly. hispls is saying that the Obsidian has a 2.5"coil.
This^^^

OP has no idea how much power he is putting out.
Hard clipped signal will certainly aggrivate the whole over-heating issue.
yeah ill try backing it down. but i don't see how 750 watts rms would be messing with the sub. ik ppl that put 1500 to each sub no problem..... idk how to clamp stuff either. and ill stay away from youtube

A lot of times you can just google a song and put zippy at the end and find a zippyshare link to it.

31v voltage to the sub is what my volt meter reads. i have it hooked up to the subs 12v, ground, and rem. it will drop into 11's but i normally won't let it get past 12.5 on the music i was playing tonight it was steady 14's with the occasional 13.8 and higher
