I'm looking for some enclosure help. I have a pair of JL 18w6's that I would like to develop a new enclosure for. Actually what I was hoping for was a loud ported enclosure. JL does not reccomend using the 18w6 in this enclosure type... however I dont want to take JL's word and I want to go ported anyway. Sub damage happens right?

Here's the specs for the sub...

18W6

Fs 20.0 Hz

Qts 0.384

Qes 0.402

Qms 8.740

Vas 9.00 254.9

Xmax 0.500 12.7

1w/1m 88.8 dB

Sd 182.6 0.1178

Re 11.04 Ω (in series)

Znom Dual 6 Ω

PT 500 Watts

I think that they would require a really large enclosure to go ported... but I'm not to sure how large.

I dunno, I figured someone would get bent outta shape if I was going to try a ported enclosure for a sub that the manufacturer states should not be attempted. I used a online box calculator to find what size box the subs would require, I cant even seem to get any results from it...

Someone Please Help!

What vehicle, how much room are you willing to lose, and out of curiousity how much power are you going to send at them?

Do you want something more geared twoards comps or do you want something that makes you throw up when the lows hit

Are you building the box yourself or having someone build it for you

Are you willing to pay a few bucks for plans, if you find osmeone who is good with them it helps a lot

Vehicle is a 1999 Tahoe 2dr. I can lose all the room in the rear...

I'm using a PPI PC1400 giving them around 950-1000 for the pair... 1.5ohm load.

I'll be building the box myself... but I dont mind paying for some plans if someone wants to help me out.

I wanna throw up when it hits....lol.

I too would like to vomit.

As far as dying. I am fairly certain my home owners association has officially begun the search for a hitman to take him out. After the new box, well they may just hire a backup to be sure. Bass has a powerful effect on a sleeping person.

What about a horn or folding crane or whatever the hell they are called?
