so last week I get an urgent message on my answering machine regarding my mastercard account, the guy clarified that it was not a solicitation and that it was very important. so I call them up and the lady on the phone said that the reason they wanted to get a hold of me was to ask if I had called them on Monday from a different # and said a call was made to them regarding my account.
I told here no, this is the first time I've ever even called this number. so immediately she suggests I close the account and get a new card. then she asked me if I made any transactions on Mon. and that there was a pending charge for $160 or so adn I hadn't made any charges at all within that week. so soemone definitely had tried to get ahold of it and do some damage. the lady on the phone didn't specifiy anything about the "phone call" made, but I wonder why the hell someone would call the credit card company like that, doesn't make any sense? so anyways she told me to destroy the card and they would issue me a new one, which I have already received and activated.
Now here's teh kicker, just now I got a letter in the mail, entitled Household Bank (credit card company) stating that in reference of my account ending in (the one already terminated) that I need to send them a copy of my ID, and a recent utility bill, WTF! You got to be kidding me, these ID thieves are a mutha fucca, there is no way this letter can be true, it has fraud written all over it and I am going to report it.
any of you guys ever experience anything like this and what is your thoughts on ways to prevent things like it from happening?
