someone define subwoofer SQ

Well i went from a 15" IDQ in a 2.55cuft sealed box with 500rms going to it which is pretty much optimal for SQ. I traded for 2 12" 7500s in 4.5cuft@38hz with 170rms going to each subwoofer. I cannot tell the difference at all in the SQ. They both hit all the drum and bass beats with ease and quickness and really neither of them sounded distorted or anything.

I used to have 1 12" L7 in one of the bigger kicker ported boxes with about 800rms going to it and i pretty much had to listen to rap on it because it sounded so badly. Even though it would get pretty **** loud with rap i had to get rid of them.

I figure the 7500's would have been pretty much in the same boat as the L7 in terms of SQ. What is noticably different with most SQ subwoofers compared to like the SQL drivers. I am sure strictly SPL drivers sound similar to the L7 but maybe i am tone deff. if i cant tell the difference in the IDQ and 7500s?

To me, there is no distinction. "SQL" is a horrible term that is misused constantly.

If that's what it sounded like to your ears, then OK. Consider yourself lucky, you don't have to deal with a lot of aggravation and headache //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

good ? - I've wondered that myself. I mean...bass is bass, right? right?
well i mean to a certain point. There are SPL drivers the honestly wont keep up with double bass and what not. When i say SQL i mean drivers that arent directed totally towards SPL. DD and L7s and there are many others are directed mainly toward the SPL direction, but there are some FI, RE, MTX, Alpine, etc. etc. that arent aimed directly towards SQ or SPL and to some people there is a noticable difference in the way the IDQ sounds compared to other subs not SPL oriented? I understand that most SQ drivers are a lot more efficient and will preform very well with lower amounts of power, but when it comes down to the listening factor is there truly a difference?

Well I notice the difference between my W3's, RL-p, Fi Q, and IDQ. Bass is bass, but they each had a slight difference along with different FR plots due to whichever box I had them in, which was really the most noticeable thing. The more speakers and subs I listen to, the more differences I'm noticing. I don't think I'm an audio snob, but I can hear differences, and have always been the type to be very disappointed in HTIB systems and anything generally low-end that a lot of people claim to be great bang-for-the-buck.

Anyone hear the factory system in a Honda Ridgeline? Drove in a friend's the other day, and wow. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sick.gif.b1847c8dabbfeeddbcf1a78052249e10.gif
