Some sound staging Q's

Okay, I have two sets of 6.5" components and a set of 6x9"s

They're alpines, the components model is spr-176a, and the 6x9"s are SPR-694A...

that said, one of the two 6x9"s blew (the tweet did) because the wires going to the woofer d/c and the power swtiched into the tweet ****ing it.

I want to re-do this dash section (and deaden and brace my doors better):

I want to make a fiberglass consol/dash and probably cover it in grey vinyl...Anyways I'll end up re-directing the air vents perhaps with some 3" pvc or something, but I wanted to add in a center speaker about where the vents are at the moment.

I'll be adding another slot so that I can fit an EQ and Headunit in it, the air vents, and controls, and perhaps a monitor.

Would this be a good idea if it was properly deadened and braced?...Sound quality (soundstage) and speaker wise (central speaker)?

not to sound mean but sound staging is exactly what it means you have more emphisis on the rear than you do the front.

The Second set of components sit just behind the driver and passenger...

However I just want to know if using a 6x9" speaker as a center speaker is okay as long as it is braced and deadened well...I feel that the center of the dash is lacking, so if I place a speaker there, it will even out the soundstage and make it more realistic?

The car came stock with a 7 speaker system, and there is a spot for a 3" or so speaker farther up the dash.

I would advise you not to get it. No offense, but it seems as if you do not have a very good grasp on the basics of sound quality and such. That processor would be way too much for you to handle.

First work on the basics of proper speaker position, phasing, aiming, etc etc. All the processors in the world won't help if you don't have the basics down or don't understand the basics.

I understand a good amount of it and which is why I'm re-doing all of this now.

At the time, they were put in there, they were just tossed in...

I'm going to try my hands at fiberglassing, then I can make some mounts and reposistion the components.

...Its gonna be a little while before I get the processor anyway because most of my money is going torwards other things.

I've looked around and looking for a system perhaps similar to this setup...

Basically, the processor has a cental channel, and then I'll get an amp with 2/1 channels and the power I need to the 6x9" and place the 6x9 in the dash.

The componets sets now, I'll move the set closest to the seats, torwards the front, and aim them at the opposing passenger...then I may add a new set of rear speakers and use them to fill in the back of the cabin.

Alls I want to know is if the 1 6x9" speaker would do just fine as a center speaker...and about where to position it. I was thinking a little bit below eye level (because of the posistion of the dash), and the point it up a few degrees. Thats all...

if i was you i would tune down the speakers in the front of the door remove the rear door speakers and place into some kicks (make these the main speakers) or remove the door speakers altogether and do the kicks. then i would do the processor with a center channel (might be too much i dont really like cc speakers). you have good enough equipment i wouldnt worry about getting "better" speakers just put them in better locations and screw the 6x9s totally. trust me you do this right you wont ever go back

it takes a lot of work and skill to make the central channel do anything except screw up your soundstage. Remember if you have equal pathlengts, or good processing, the central channel will create itself in thin air.
