SOCAL guys... need advice

ok guys, i know this is the dome... but looking for ACTUAL opinions, and experiences here... no BS.

heres the deal.... just got offered a job at edwards afb.... which is around the palmdale, lancaster area.... the job, pay, and everything else is pretty comprable to my current position.... so just trying to figure out more about the area. i would probably end up having to get a place around palmdale or lancaster... cuz i really dont feel like making a 2 hour drive each way to work... so.... thoughts about that area? i know its out in the desert, but thats about the extent of my knowledge of it. just trying to figure out if it would be worth putting out the coin to move cross country (live in DC now, and f*cking hate it).... more just asking about the area, cost of living, standard of living... that type of sh*t.

Cost of living in Cali is outrageous. But DC is pretty high too, so I dont know how they would compare. Some employment websites like monster.com have cost of living comparing software that allows you to put in your current location and salary, and then it calculates the salary you would be required to make in your new location to maintain the same standard of living. Its not exact of course, but its a heck of a lot more accurate than guessing or relying on the advice of anonymous strangers. Check it out.

Been to edwards a few times....yeah it's in the desert and there's nothing around at all, gets really hot, dry and stuff like that

I've never been to Lancaster though so can't help at all there

the cost of living in that area compared to where i live at now is actually a lil bit cheaper... like i said, the money factor is about the same here or with this new job.... just trying to figure out if its worth moving across the country (trying to make sure i dont end up moving to a sh*thole)

there is nothing around edwards from what i remember....same goes for 29 palms.....
