So, My girlfriend wants me to go to the gym with her

(this is the OPs girl btw.)
Going to the gym would be our best bet. I hate working out at home, the gym is more motivation for me, and in his best interest. Hes got back problems that would easily be fixed by a stronger core and lower back. Ive lost my muscle tone in my *** and legs and arms.. and woudl like to get that back. Its pretty much due to inactivity not our diet. We eat on average 2000 a day.. maybe a little less or more depending. So as long as i work out more, ill be fine, same with him.

He also said something about bigger arms for him, thats cause i like big arms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And since he likes big *****... ill hit the Stair machine and do extra squats to enhance what i already got //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

oh and he doesnt like the idea of going to the gym cause he hates seeing the "worlds strongest men" in there popping veins and seeing who can chug their Cookies n Cream Whey protein the fastest after doing a 800lb dead lift....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif ... and i dont like that either.. thats why imma take advantage of the 24 hour access and go early in the morning with him.

sorry for the novel.. just thought id post. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Sorry, i just noticed he posted about it, didnt know he was "concerned" with it till then.

He's stubborn. I know a LOT more then he thinks about working out and I can help him build muscle and lose what he calls "man tits". Its not as bad as he thinks, tho there is room for improvment.

And you didnt waste your time ... you help a few people along the way which is good. Though in my opinion.. weight/fat loss is 60% exercise and 40% diet. Without diet your exercise means nothing.. like some dude said about sitting on your *** eating carrots...

I think what the OP was talking about wanting advice, is like certain exercises to do. I want to get him to do some intrerval (sp) cardio with me. since we both could benefit from the fat loss, and do a good solid 30-45 min full body workout, with a focus on upper body and core for him, and lowerbody and core for me.

I think he just wants to hear it from some "men" who are already fit.. and not from his lazy *** GF lol. I dont practice what i preach which got me 25-35lbs over weight....

btw i think thats 100% BS that you can gain 25-30 lbs in muscle just from basic training.....
muscle... not fùcking weight, muscle.. no way is that shit possible
I went in 125# after basic I was 155# and ripped. Less fat on me when I got in. Don't know what so hard to believe about that.

Well you can actually. Ive not heard about gaining 25-30lbs in muscle, but im sure its possible. You still have to think tho. If he went from say.. 240lbs at 30% body fat.. then reduced his body fat to 17% but was still weighing 220lbs.. whats that say? that means he gained a good amount of muscle weight, cause he has a significant lower BF%. Get what i mean? im not good at explaining.

you dont know as much as you think you do, not to be rude. your "interval" training, doesnt leave you gagging about ready to puke, does it? if not....your not doing it correctly. it doesnt mean pedal on a stationary for a minute and then bust *** for the next minute, then slow down, the speed up, then slow down. interval = the puke drill in baseball. jogging 1 lap, sprinting 1 lap, jogging one lap, sprinting one lap. or jogging 30 seconds, sprinting 1 minute. that's interval.

and your deal with sitting on the couch eating carrots.....proves you dont know as much as you think you do. if you are both eating ~2000 calories, you...nor him....would be 35 pounds over weight. no lie. your body burns more than that in a day, easily. if it didnt, your BMR wouldn't say so. I'm guessing your ~150-170. at 160, you would be burning ~2450 a day with light activity, and sedentary job. so at 2000 cals you would lose maybe a pound a week. possibly 2, depending on work out calories burnt.

until you cut out soda, fast food, pizza, breads, and all that other white carb crap, your not eating correctly 2000 cals or not.

edit: do yourself a favor and write down a full day of EVERYTHING both of you eat and enter it into fit day. I bet your eating ~500 more than you think you are and at some point were eating 1000+ more than you thought you were.

i'm a wrestling coach and the kids get more of a benefit on the mat than they do in the gym. when I put them in the gym they it's just to maintain what they built on the mat. I'd highly recommend participating in some sort of physical activity to build with. like a flag football league, raquet ball group, tennis group, softball league, or even paintball. most of these activities are extremely fun and will benefit you more than just going to the gym.

most ppl quit going to the gym b/c after a few months they don't see any results. unless you're going to the gym doing weight training and 45min or more of intense cardio atleast 3 day a week you're not going to see the results your looking for in a reasonable amount of time.

in a way i'd agree with you but it'd really depend on his age and if he grew vertically.
18 years old. Stayed the same height. Going from smoking pot and drinking beer all day to basic training, big life style difference.

Yes i know how to properly do interval training. I was in dance and did some cheerleading, also worked out with the football team a while back since they wouldnt let me play. I know whta needs to be done and all that good stuff. At first im NOT gonna work myself till i puke, Ive gotta get into the swing of things.

Also about the calories. heres my story and why im gaining weight eating only 2000 +/- calories a day: At age 13.. parents divorced.. became severely depressed, gained almost 80lbs. i held on to that weight till i was 15 almost 16, then i went on a CRASH diet. My metabolizm is next to nothing it seems... so im reality, my BMR is a bit lower cause my body was used to eating only 800-1000 calories a day. Once i got a job at 16.. i was working at shitty ol McDonalds... i gained about 20lbs there. once i quit there and moved in with the OP at 18 .. i lost about 5-7lbs.. cause i wont eating junk anymroe.. but i still couldnt lose the other weight. my metabolizm is still ****ed.. which is why i can only eat 2000 a day and not lose... also like i said, inactivity plays a large role. im still 18.. so it hasnt been long since all that bad eating shit.. so yeah. I still need to rev my metabolizm back up.. and exercise, that way the 2000 calories will help be get back in shape.

oh btw. hypothyroidism and PCOS doesnt help me at all. reseach that, also explains a bit.

Sorry if i dont make sense agian.. not good at explaining.

well if u have never lifted or done extreme shit to your body, im sure the first change will add on a decent amount of muscle, and loss of bodyfat, but once u have passed this virgin state of lifting wouldnt it be around the range of like 5-10lbs of muscle per year?

so eat less food at each meal, but eat 5 times a day. that will get your metabolism moving, and of course...work out. do an hour+ of lifting on a 5 day split and do cardio (low intensity for 30 minutes or more on a variety of machines), eat lots of protein (1g per gram of lean body mass) and you have no reason not to lose weight. but EAT. and that means eat 2000 calories. at your weight (you didnt argue with the number i said so i take it i was roughly correct) if you go to 1600-1800 your not going to last. your body needs more than 12-1600.

you can change your metabolism, so thats not an excuse to eat less. chicken, broccolli, cottage cheese, natural peanut butter, whey protein, steak, pork chops, green beans, cashews, almonds, eggs, turkey bacon.........that all should be somewhere in your diet at one point or another. tuna, salmon, talapia....
