So, I have 3 Skar IVX D2 12" subs, and one American Bass ph2500md. I have a lot of options on which way I set this up and want some opinions. I have a couple boxes I built for these subs. One 3 sub ported box, and one 2 sub ported box. My problem is I have a Saturn Vue and I really want to save as much space as possible. So here are my options. please keep in mind I want loud but I also want to sound decent, and save space.

3 subs ported with 279 watts to each sub. (Takes up to much room. I have this box built.)

3 subs sealed with 279 watts to each sub

2 subs ported with 338 watts to each sub. (currently running this)

1 sub ported with 998 watts going to the sub. (Sub is 400 watts)

1 sub sealed with 998 watts going to the sub. (sub is 400 watts)

1 Old Audiobahn 15" sub ported with 676 watts going to the sub. (gets loud I have this box)

For reference I got all my power measurements from this link.

I havent messed with any of Skar stuff, so no opinion on their equipment. But i can say a subs performance relies on the right box made from the right material. I have seen high dollar high end subs sound like crap and get beat by smaller, low end subs because of crap boxes. I have also heard single subs destroy multi sub setups because the right box was chosen. To save space, usually a single sub is the way to go. Research the sub. Get the specs as far as cubic feet needed, port frequency, is it designed for an enclosure, bandpass, or sealed box. The rms rating. And make sure you feed it enough power. And most important is the install. Like the wiring, rca cables, ground size and lcation. I have seen systems with great potential fail because the install was done poorly. Personally, in a saturn vue, i would run 1 15. Just get the right box. Dont skimp. And feed the amp all you can as far as power. Set the amp gain correctly. And you should be thumping hard.

I agree with the enclosure is king. Through the years I've accumulated a garage full of tools, and I've built quite a few enclosures through the years. I was thinking of building a single ported enclosure for a 12 just so I can get the most out of the amp, but my personality is never satisfied, and I know in the end I'll probably end up going with all three subs..lol. But it ***** throwing boat, kayak, or football equipment on top of the box. Like I said I feel fairly competent with building a box, especially with the vast amount of knowledge at our fingertips. I had the 15 in a crappy box I built with round ports and it got loud. Maybe I will try to build a better box for that also.

Personally, i feel that the single 15 in the right box will be more than plenty. And will still leave a bit of room for storage. I did an install with my cousin back in the 90's in his third gen camaro. These cars are hard to get good thump and still have room. He originally had two punch twelves in a camaro box. The twelves were designed for sealed boxes. It sounded ok at best. But not good. I built an enclosure for two tens that sat down in the well a little more, tuned the ports right, ran the same amp and the whole thing exploded to life. People were amazed that tens were booming like that. The day we fired them up, we had people two blocks away come down complaining of the noise.

Build a box for the 15. And then play around with what direction the port faces. As long as everything is right, it should make some pretty **** good noise forsure.
