so i just finished my temporary install and i am about to kill someone. im running to 2500d's and 2 06 xxx's i got a h.o. alt that puts out 275 amps max and 135 at idle. tried wiring subs to 1 ohm and the car just shuts off. had to wire them at 4 ohm and i dont like it at all. is my alt a piece of shit or whats the deal? is there an alt that puts out a grip at idle? lmk

Who makes it?

And btw thats a REALLY low idle.. REALLY REALLY low for what your doing.

I would do a dual install alt install. One for your car and the other for your setup.

its an alterstart and i want to hunt the owner down. for a dual alt install do you need the same alt? cuz i have my oem alt and this pos alterstart "275 amp" one

You can raise the idle (which if your state does emmisions testing might be an issue) or get a different pulley for the alternator (this should speed it up).
Juan
yea, if you can find one, get a smaller pulley. It should idle faster, giving you alot more amperage at idle.

are there any alternators that put out alot of amps at idle? this alt is brand new so i think i may be able to return it. also if i do a dual alt system do the alts have to be the same? will 2 of these alternators be enough they do 135 at idle and 275 max?

Yeah I would probably look into a dual alt setup, I don't think having the same alternator would matter. I would also think about running some more batteries later on too.

does anyone know if 2 275 amp alt's with 2 yellow tops would solve my power issue? also i was talking to the guy at alterstart and he told me a batt isolator was not necessary and would cause resistance if i had 2 alt's? do i really not need a batt isolator to run 2 batts? lmk

I'm lost as to why you need more than one 2500d for daily driving. I bet you're not running any more than 2000 watts with both of those anyways.

First questions. Have you upgraded your factory battery? What guage power and ground are you using? Have you done the big 3? What brand is that alt? Do you have a battery in the rear?

Well I have a feeling those new xxx's take atleast 2000rms to get them really moving. That is if they are like the Mt's I have dealt with in terms of how much power you need to get full excursion out of them.

Have you heard the MT's on 1300 watts? They get **** loud...

Maybe it's my box:confused: but more than 1500 watts in my SUV is just noise and pain.

I heard them at 1000rms and they were **** loud. They were **** loud, but I would say it was moving about 1/3 the amount that it was able to.

ohio generators makes 500a alts i believe, would only need the one then...

And as far as running dual alts, u will need a custom bracket made to hold both and i recconmend doing 2 alts that are the same.
