So... I want to get loud.

What sub/s would you suggest for someone trying to get loud?

I'm not talking 3k watts and 2 18's, nothing like that. I'm talking about 1 or 2 12's and/or a 15... that are loud, but don't require massive wattage.

I'd prefer sticking under 1k but we'll see where it goes. I do enjoy Type R's but I want to go with something more unique and obscure. If anyone can help, let me know.

Also, this is going in a Geo Prizm. So we're talking a little car here, with a little alt.

Atomic makes some good stuff in a variety of price ranges. From what I hear from friends who run them their support/warranty is excellent as well.

Otherwise, all the 2 letter brands people boner over around here, TC, DD, Fi, DC, RE, AQ, IA, AA all have capable speakers. Old school strokers are pretty off-the-beaten-path and are very efficient and can get really loud if you can find some. Don't forget Sundown, SSA, Soundsplinter, and Exodus (who make XBL^2 type Adire clones)

Want to go really crazy get one of the Shocker Sigs built up to a 12" for yourself (a guy in here is building to order). I must say that after using these I can tell you that a huge power handling driver can often be very very efficient. Along the same lines, TRF, T3, subs have a very strong motor and should be very efficient.
