so i feel misled...

I wasnt aware so many people on CA.com think Hifonics is poo. Aparently not many have used Hifonics. The cleanest power? no. Do they do over rated? no. But they are reliable and tough as shit and cheap as well. Something makes me think the amp was broken before you got it or you hooked something up wrong.
Protect is there for a reason, to protect. If it falls into protect, it should be fine after it cools down and is powered back up. If amps fall into protect and stay there you did something seriously wrong (like a dead short) or it was broken another way.
zues and brutus amps shouldnt be thought of when talking about xx type amps totally different breed altogether and not cheap.

XX series are considered cheap compared to other hi-end products such as RF and kicker. for $450, you can get a Hercules. For $705, you can get a colossus II brand new!

yea, i even considered i may have hooked up something wrong, which i though unlikely since i have been doing this for years now, but theres always a chance right? so i removed all the speakers from my box and inspected the wiring of each one, not a bare wire anywhere, no chance of a short, dmm still read .5'ish, so i dont know what it could have been, i just hope whatever it is can be easily repaired

those arent the bigger amps the ones people comp with are the goliath and the maximus.... and who shops on ebay? i wouldnt...

I have 2 xx hercs and I run the daily at .5 each. Never any problems. Im with everybody else, seems like it was jacked up before you even recieved it. Just my $0.02

man, i bet your ticked off. didn't you just finish paying $800 for that amp?
good luck!!!
yea, i just bought it liek two weeks ago and got it this past saturday from fedex

i dont think so, the seller was a real cool guy and was totally upfront about everything, so i dont think that it was damaged when i got it. i dont know what cuold have happened, my electrical system is up to par and everything, i just dont know the seller is working with me as far as getting it repaired and whatnot, so hopefully soon ill find out what happened. if anyone knows about this type of thing, it powers on normally for about 1 second, then kicks itself into protect if anyone might know what that means.

This is just a bad situation anyway you look at it because I and anyone else that reads this thread is going to tell you that Team Maxxsonics Db Drag guys are going to abuse the amps. Pretty plain and simple. I'm sure Big Oso and any other Team Maxxsonics guys are absolutely upstanding, but when it comes to Db Drag competitors, they seek to get the most that they can out of an amp. Also, Mike Stiers (Maxxsonics employee) told me flat out that the Goliath does not like anything over 5 volts through the RCA's. Bamaboy's situation is unique in that as soon as the amp saw power it blew, yet again another example of a previous user that probably abused the amp before Bamaboy. By no means am I an expert on this situation, but when I received my replacement amp from Maxxsonics and hooked it up @ 1 ohm with the same external crossover settings I used on my first Goliath, the amplifier got extremely hot so before anything bad happened I called Maxxsonics and talked to Mike Stiers and that is when I learned about the RCA voltage. I turned off all signal boosting on my crossover and wa-la the amp could suddenly run @ 1 - .5 ohm without getting even lukewarm.

I really hate that you are going through this. Good luck, I hope everything works out.
