I went to Home Depot the other day to buy some MDF for my new enclosure I'm making, and I decide to have them cut it for me since I wanted to get it done fast. I give the guy my measurements, which were -

2 - 30"x12"

2 - 28.5"x10.5"

3 - 11.5"x10.5"

He proceeds to get everything cut, and for the 11.5"x10.5" pieces, he gives me three rectangles that are almost 20" long. I tell him, and he says, "Good call." Okay....maybe I'll let him cut the other pieces and see what happens.

He then cuts all the pieces, and what do you know; they're all wrong. He gives me the following pieces -

2 - 49"x12"

2 - 47.5"x11"

3 - 11.25"x11" (after he already made a mistake on these before)

I look at him and ask, "How many lies did you have to tell to get this job?" And I left the wood there, got a new sheet and left, so I'll cut it by myself.

Home Depot really does have some dumb employees, or atleast where I live.

Same thing happened to DJman and myself. Guy admitted the saw was off 1/8 inch or so. So we saif that was fine...ended up being like 1.5" off. Dude said we needed to buy it since it was cut.

We took it up front and the store manager looked at us when we said that and said, "no way..." get you a new sheet and leave this one here.

The idea behind the panel saw is major rips, not intricut project cuts. When I worked at Lowe's I would suggest cutting the wood a little larger and letting the customer trim down on their own. We cannot guarentee the accuracy of cuts....

im pretty spoiled. i work for a construction contractor and the guys we get all our custom counters and stuff from work out of a shop 2 doors down from our building. like maybe 300 feet. since we do so much business with them they cut all the shit i need for me for nothing. im actually having him rip all the wood for me for my 9918 tomarrow. considering its a custom cabinet shop everything i get from them is to the T with dimentions. if you dont have a big table saw or a good place to work i would suggest hitting up the yellow pages and find a cabinet shop. a lot of shops will just charge you like 20 to 25 bones to do all the cuts real quick if you bring the wood in. since thats all they do at these shops it takes them like 15 minutes and isnt hard. even at 20 bucks for 15 minutes of work, thats like 80 bucks an hour in there eyes. then you have absolutly perfect cuts for ur box.

When I bought the wood for my box, I came around 8 pm when no one was there.

I told the guy what I was looking for, and that it was for a subwoofer box and how I had no access to saws, so it had to to on point.

I told him something along the lines of "I know that you can't guarantee it, but from one member of the service industry who hates it to another member of the service industry, I'd have no problem tipping you and you can take as long as you want to make the cuts"

Sure enough he had no problem cutting them perfectly, and enjoyed telling everyone on his walkie talkie that he was busy for the next 1.5 hours.

At the end he didn't accept the tip, and even told me that I didn't have to pay for the cuts.

I put the box together, only 1 panel was off, by about an 1/8 of an inch, aka the width of the saw blade according to the sign posted on the saw.

Same shit happened to me. But you gotta do 2 things.

#1Do the measurements youself. Write on the wood at the top where the saw begins to cut. Look thru the shop vac attachment to align the cut.

#2Let the dumb *** run the blade thru.

#3Do It all over again.

Wait thats three thigns

The local lowes/HD near me do a great job....there is a measing tape on the saw, and I point that out when they reach for the tape measure. I do not have a problem throwing the guy a few bucks if they are willing to take the time and cut it where I want it, or have them re do a whole shhet if they mess up.
