Smoking Amps Please Help!

Hi, today in an effort to rid myself of alternator noise i regrounded my hu, and my amp. First i did hte amp and it worked alright, then i did the hu, and i guess in the process of regrounding it i somehow blew the fuse to in the amp, which relaly wasn't a big deal because i had an extra lying around. So i pop the old one out and put new one it, and then the amp pops, fizz's, and smokes like cheech and chong, It continues to pour out for a few seconds from the vents, then it stopped. So figuring i coudln't make it much worse i started my car up, amp turned on, then i heard the good old sound of a fuse blowing. Now im out of fuses and all the stores are closed, but do you think that the amp has internal problems or does it just need a new fuse or something. Thanks

Seems to me like the fuse.. Maybe you would want to try somthing a little bit bigger..? I'm not exactly sure though.. :stuck:
but the amp was smoking tho. hoping it's just the fuses cuz it's not a big deal. but try replacin the fuses n see what happens. i would put my 50 cents on the internal circuitry of the amp

alright well i drove around for an hour and a half today looking for new fuses, with no luck finding a 40 amp one that is the right size, so i tried a 30, and plugged it in and was immediately electricuted, which was pretty enjoyable to say the least. So ica lled up profile and i gotta send it in, thanks for your help guys.

Sounds like you shorted your amp........

Usually the smoke coming out of the vents is a giveaway. :p

But it could just be a fried transistor or sometime....an easy fix.

btw:

For the future....if your clumsy around eletrical lines...its good idea to disconnect your battery...just a thought //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

jsut the negative terminal will do.

i did disconnect it when i was screwin with the amp, but then i reconnected it before i did the hu, and somehow when i regrounded that it blew, who knows, they're fixing it free so im not too worried about it.

You let the smoke out? It probably won't work any more, unless you can get the smoke back in. All electrical devices work on smoke... if the smoke gets out, they stop working.

bzzzzt.

:p

LOL , you can try pouring some water onto the board too........I heard that brings the smoke back in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif

Nah, pouring water generates *new* smoke. Which is exactly what the amp nees (It's original smoke is probably hiding out somewhere far away by now) - Unfortunately, so far I haven't developed a way to capture the new smoke and contain it - but I'm sure that if I could find a way to do that, I could make a killing in electronics repair!!!

:p
