Too Loud, Too Bad!!
so I was running a visonik 15" D2 is a 5 cubic foot ported enclosure at 2 ohms on an orion 2500d set at 3/4 gain. (positive to positive then to amp, negative to negative then to amp) If I turn it up too loud I would get a smell as if the woofer was working too hard and starting to fail. So I got my ma hk15x2 and I put that in the same enclosure, same wires, same amp and this woofer is doing it also. Why is this happening? I can smell it coming from in the box when I smell by the port.

you have it wired to a 1 ohm load?if so its getting 2500~rms(depending on voltage loss) my guess is that that sub is takeing to much power and probbally being clipped like all hell.

If it heats up it will smell... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Glue and VC do that sometimes, it is usually a sign that it is getting a bit warm...

3/4 of a turn past clipping? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
lmao ya the middle of the woofer is a bit warm now that I checked it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif well seeing as its a daily right now I should probabley just wire it to 2 ohms eh? Amp level is at 3/4, intelli Q is off, freq set to about 42 in a 5 cubic foot ported box. Stock alternator, 2 stinger batteries, 1000 watt jbl to 6 speakers for highs. That alittle better for you JIMJ? Does that satisfy your request? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

"Set to 3/4 gain" doesn't mean squat.
How did you set the gains, specifically?

There should be a "this is how an amp gain works and this is how you set it" article you are required to read and take a test on before you can sign up to post on this (and many other) forums.

I would guess more subs and amps are destroyed by "gain is only set at 3/4" than any other way. . . .

You cannot wire a D2 sub to 2ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Eh, just being it's being overpowered doesn't mean its being clipped.
