Small budget SQ system ive put together. Need comments plz

So now we just picked up the car and it has no places for speakers at all. I really dont want to have to fabricate kick panels either, the doors are too thin to cut a new hole for speakers. However the rear deck is IMO the best spot i can think of to mount speakers in. Now i know youre supposed to have all of your sound up front but now it is just a matter of getting some sort of sound in the car, now remember guys, this is her WORK car, and it would be nice for her to have something to listen to. Would it still be okay to cut a holes in the rear deck and mount a component set there? Would it still sound okay?

After some talking with her shes now decided not to get a sub because she needs the trunk space. So i will just get a decent HU, some good components, and a small amp. She'd like to keep it under 350 dollars for everything.

Now i just took a quick look and theres wires etc in the HU hole, but below the rear deck there is a large peice of metal that goes from the sides of the car. Do i have to cut through this? Or is there mids that are thin enough to squeeze in there? Im thinking theres no more than about 3 inches for clearance back there. It just seems problem after problem with this. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

However there is a lot of places for amp grounds and mounts though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

FYI in the clasified section a guy is selling a set of JL Audio XR comps for $135, they r over $400 new. Awsome sound quality comps!

Try looking on ebay for some used kick panels, I bet u can pick some up cheap & that would solve the problem,u really need to put the comps up front if u can. Good Luck!!

If there is a hole and wires for a HU, then there are speakers too. Take a good look. Sometimes they are in the dash, hidden by cloth or what not. Just look really good first. It wouldn't make any sence at all to have a HU and no speakers.

Well the hole was covered by a cover of sorts, i had to take it off to get to the wires, which were all jammed up in the back of the dash and were a real bish to get out. My mom has the car now so i wont be able to search till tomorrow. The car hasnt ever had a HU in it before, im sure back in 1980 radios were not all that common. The hole really isnt a "hole" per se, its very hard to explain, look in the pic below, i have no digital camera, but i can draw one with paint.

Edit: sorry about the pic being so **** small, i really dont know what to do about it.

Do you know what these wires go to? Do you have a DMM or a 12v light tester? See if you can figure out what them wires are too. If they are typical of a HU installation, then you know something has been there before.

If not, I don't know what to tell you. As far as the rear deck goes, you will probably need more then 3 inches. You could cut through that metal, or you could make a mounting ring a few inches high and mount to that. Get some cloth covering of some sort to wrap around the rings to make it look decent (unlike what I did in my install, and it looks very shitty)

But please, try very hard to install the speakers in the front. Maybe you could carve out holes in the dash. It would sound a heck of a lot better then in the back.

I dont have a dmm but im sure my dad has a 12v tester somewhere. Ive got a couple car chargers for various things that i could test with too.

As i said i dont have access to the car now but i will be sure to give it a good search tomorrow.

The wires have plastic ends on them so im sure theyre most likely for a HU power and ground... There was two different plugs though, which ive never seen before, but maybe thats the way it was stock.

Well, i did some searching and there is actually speakers in there, they are way the hell up by the dash in the panel right under the dash. I think they are 4 inch, anyone got any idea of any good 4" speakers in the 80 dollar range?

Edit: componenets
