SLCs got installed.. Sounded great until a CRACKLING started..

Well i got my SCLs today installed with my Orion400.2 .... Sounded AWSOME for the first 15-20 minutes.. On my way home my right mid started CRACKLING! I turned my volume down, and the crackling was even there at lower volumes... I called Circuit City and talked to the guy that installed them and he said it sounds like a blown mid.. Im bout to head back on up that away and let him listen to it.. Gains and everything were set properly.. Just my freakin luck...

umm how did you set your gains, i think the rms on those is like 80, and that amp puts out a little to much power for them.

Theyll certainly take substantially more than 80 watts.

My opinion would possibly go to a poor install job, just dont bank on them admitting it.

I took it back to CC and they removed the right mid..The guy said it smelt like a voice coil came apart.. The cone wasnt stiff or anything.. I rode around a little and knew something else wasnt right.. .. Come to find out I am not getting any sound at all out of my left mid.. I dont know what to think..

i'm feeding mine 100 per side (well more like 108) and they take it like a champ. i'm with 6spd on this one, seems like install error of some sorts.

Hard to say what it is. But I hope its someone you know that did that install for you. My brother works at Best Buy, and I've been told they many a times have fried speakers on purpose that people bring to them- they, as well as many shops hate when you bring product to them to install. They want you to purchase their inhouse brands because they make additional commission on it. This is one of the main reasons why theres anomosity associated with Circuit City/Best Buy and other chain store installation practices. So for one they made their money on the install already. Next time you come in, they give you the 'the speakers were damaged' story, and they hose you for new components and to install them.

I hate to sound so 'conspiracy theory', but seriously the people that work there are under alot of pressure and have meetings on the regular and are pressured to sell, sell, sell and move product.
