Here is what i suggest...

Make a proper box. The subs you currently have will be much better than you think...in the interim, start working on your electrical and planning out each step of your upgrade

Even if you feel the need to start with new subs... 2 +1000 Watt 15's on a 3.5K will impress... just don't believe the shop that told you that you are getting all you can from your 2 15's now... I'd change installers
