single Re Audio XXX15d2 enclosure/amp requirements

I've done google searches, so I know re audio's recommended enclosures are too small, but I don't know just how big to make a sealed enclosure for it. should I just shoot as big as possible, say 8 cubes?

I also know the rms rating is lower than what it can handle, but is that accurate for daily use? Can I wire it to 2500RMS? 3000? 5000? daily use, for hours occasionally. How should I wire it? wire both coils in parallel to a 1 ohm stable monoblock with the dual coil 2ohm version? or the 4 ohm version? or to a 2 channel amp? Any reccomendations of a reliable, accurately rated amp for a decent price will be appreciated as well.

I haven't ordered it yet, just thinking about what to buy. I chose this woofer because the high excursion makes it perfect for sub-bass(

thankyou for any help:crazy://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/graduate.gif.d982460be9f153bb54e5d4cb744f6ae8.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

The RE XXX doesn't handle over rated power, unless they don't have split coils anymore.

You could put that sub in a large sealed box. I don't know if I'd go more than like 3 cubes or so. Idk what kind of music you are listening too, but you could put it in a ported box.

okay, so for sealed I was thinking to big. I knew sealed could be much smaller, but I didn't realize that even for such a massive 15" driver it would be so small compared to ported. That's good to know, and convenient too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Based on what you said about power handling, I'll just buy a ~2000RMS amp. little bit of a newb question- what the heck is split coil? Are you referring to the pre-2005 old version of the xxx (with a 12 spoke basket)? some people make it sound like wiring resistance as low as possible is awesome, but does it really matter as long as the coils get 2000watts?(this is for wiring set-up)

btw, the music I listen to is always dubstep/electronic. My first set-up was a sealed 12" woofer running 500rms, and it sounded really nice but wasn't loud enough. I dropped the same subwoofer in a ported box, and it's louder(still not enough) but the bass has a tendency to slide frequency in dubstep and the ported box changes volume randomly as the frequency approaches the tuning. I use that right now. I like the predictability and flat frequency response of sealed but I need more power- hence the massive subwoofer in a sealed box. I also want to keep trunk space clear.

RE specs for the box is small. The specs i used for my single 12 was 3.5 cubes ported at 36hz. that was straight from re support. the newer ones do handle well over rated because they stopped the split coil design

I had a XXX years ago. He Is right, It didn't like over the rated power.
The design of the xxx changed radically in 2005. Do you know when yours was made?

Awesome, it'll easily handle more than 2500rms daily then? I'll stick it with a 2500rms amp. for the 15" enclosure I'll be good with 3 cubes sealed.

Still wondering about how to wire and amp.

That would explain it if it was pre-2005. The design was overhauled after that. Most of the parameters changed. some people prefer the old version and try to find used ones.

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.
