just picked up a Thump T4006 for nothing , older guy here and I don't remember how to wire these exactly, it has 3 power plugs , one is - and the other is RMT and + ,, now I know what + and - are but what the hell is RMT ? my guess is the plus and minus give it power and the RMT turns it on and off

You're exactly right.

The "+" input will get connected to the battery. Well, preferably the battery anyway but to wherever you're going to source 12v power from at any rate.

The "-" input gets connected to ground.

The "RMT" input will get connected to the remote activation output on your headunit so that the amp will turn on and off when the deck gets turned on and off.

thanks, that is what I figured.. it didn't click for me because I have a factory stereo but I recall the older days when I had a kenwood 1984 deck and it had RMT..

so what is this RMT in terms of a signal.. does it give a signal or volts like 5V ? , that would be nice since I found a sub port in the explorer with 12 and 5v

No I'm not expecting anything special, I like my car for the space so there will be no box to begin with. I just want to plant a couple of 6 x 9 and maybe a 8 or 10 in the back.

If you're using the OEM headunit then likely chances are there isn't a remote accessory activation output.

Consequently you'll need to run the amp's RMT input to a fuse in the fusebox that is controlled by the ignition switch or you can run a switched lead from the battery so that you can turn the amp On/Off as you see fit. (Toggle switches/rocker switches/whatever's your preference are cheap and easy to install)

The RMT input needs a 12v signal but doesn't require much amperage at all to operate properly. Case in point the remote accessory activation output on most aftermarket headunits is around 500mA worth of current if that tells you anything about how much juice is actually required by that circuit in the amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

thanks prowler. that is like the power supply from a phone.. I did find 2x 12v plugs in the back of the explorer which look like they are meant for a sub. I think I'm in luck. I do plan to replace the head unit as well..
