Similar Install & Pricing question

I'm going to four shops this weekend

All I need is sub, wire, head unit, 1 set of speakers, 2 sets of tweets and crossovers and 2 amps ( 1 mono, 1 2 channel)installed. I'm providing wiring, sub box, sub, both amps all installed. Nothing crazy, probably amps on the back seat, maybe an amp rack. The only thing I think they'll need to do is make a speaker ring for the front two doors and maybe something to hold the head unit in. What range should I be looking at here and what price should I laugh in their face and tell them to go **** themselves? Before all the questions about why not do it yourself, because I A. don't have the time. B. Don't want to **** something up. C. Just don't want to. Thanks guys.

Depends on what custom work they have to do for the deck and doors.

With all that said, I would imagine a good couple hundered dollars, maybe even 300 installed IMO.

When my back was fuxored, I paid to have a local shop do my install a few years ago and they charged me 500 dollars for deck, comps, rear speakers, 1 12" FI Q, custom box sealed off into the cabin, 2 amps, 3-way crossover and running all the 4g wiring and what not.

Looked sweet when done, but when I dug in further due to it not sounding right, found a lot of things wrong. Never sealed it off right, box was way too small and my crossovers to comps where scratching my window when rolled down. I took it all out and redid it myself months later when my back felt a little better. Worst 500 dollars I invested......

Good luck!

1) That is a lot of stuff, not an "all i need" kind of deal

2) you didnt buy their product, they are going to charge you more

I'de expect AT LEAST a few hundred bucks.

Well **** them, lol. So probably anything over $500 would be absurd?
and this is the reason why the car audio industry has gone to crap with shady installers that don't know what their doing and sale ppl that don't know squat. business need to make money to stay in business.

I understand that. But charging over 500 dollars to run wires and set things in place is not a good price. 6-8 hours of work should be around 250-350. I know its hard work, but my install is one of the easier ones.

that's awful. Seriously. You'll be prouder of your system if you installed everything. I read that you don't want to do it, but still... one day, instal the hu, another day get the wire to the trunk.... 500 ****ing bucks!!!!

At our shop 6-8 hours would run you $540-$720. $90 per hour. Off the top of my head I would need to know what kind of car you have to give an accurate quote but basic breakdown would be $75 for the deck, $150 for the front components, $75 for rear speakers, $150 for the first amp, $50 for the second amp, plus any parts needed to do the job safely and properly (fuses, fuse holders, ring terminals, dash kit, wire harness, etc.)

So you would be looking at $500ish without knowing what kind of car you have plus parts. Expect to pay $400-$600+ at a quality shop. Ask to see credentials and pictures of previous installs to see what kind of work they do. For $500 from my shop all wire would be in loom and zip tied or clamped down where appropriate. System tuned properly (no loudness, gains not maxed, etc) Rings for the speakers routered and painted black to prevent water damage and so there isn't bare wood visable through the factory grills. $528 plus a harness and other needed parts on definately on par with what a shop should be charging for that job.
