Just about to do the Big three and wanted to ask how about the side terminal on my optima? i heard the side post are not as good as the top one. any truth in this? if i would to use them, would there be a big no-no to avoid? i'm sure some of you must be using them! Would make wiring a lot easier!

I'd rather use top posts, but I havn't upgraded my battery yet, the side posts will work just fine....

trying not to jack your thread , I have a redtop and i'll be doing the big three soon , should i leave the GM side posts hooked up and run a seperate wire from the top post to the alt and use the batt grounds top post for the ground as well ?

Yeah, continue using the stock wiring and add the extra grounds and such, on seperate terminals would be the least cramped IMO. Sounds like a good plan to me...

Thats what i did, works like a charm.

In my blazer I used the top mount with terminals for the big wires, and the sidemount for the oem stuff.
