Should I run RMS power to sub? (kappa perfect)

2 part question.

1. In general, should I run RMS power to my subs. I've heard somewhere, that if you put your sub in a small sealed box, it can usually take more power, and if its a big vented box, you generally shouldn't go over the RMS power. Is this true, and if so about how much more power can i generally run to the sub w/o fear of damaging it?

2. More specifically, a 12" infinity kappa perfect, how much should I run to that. I've heard some people say don't go over the reccommendation cuz they over heat easily, some people say they went over with no problems. ONLY if you have ran a kappa perfect, lemme know what's safe for it and what isn't.

the increase in output would be negligible by going over the RMS power, infact the ratio of output increase to driver falure would be totally lop-sided, imo, with that sub.

generally speaking in #1, you are correct, mechanical power handling is often completely dependent on application, as your example correctly suggests. However, thermal power handling remains constant regardless of enclosure.

or use a GTO601.1 like me and give one 424W...did completely fine...anywhere from 350-450WRMS you will be fine...
is that 350-450 in a small sealed box?? Cuz i plan on just throwing it in a sealed box, probably built to whatever specs they give (volume-wise)....

The power and box size are directly related. Less power=bigger box. More power=smaller box... Usually.
