Aside from the other cardinal rules of firearm safety taught to myself and my siblings by our dad (who was an Army colonel and a rather unforgiving instructor when it came to guns) the very first thing he hammered into our little heads over and over and over and over and over (get the point yet?) was that there is no such thing as an unloaded weapon until you verify it for yourself ~ regardless of how trustworthy a person handed it to you. Somewhere in that list of rules was never, under any circumstances, use the presence of a firearm to intimidate someone. The only acceptable reason to point a handgun at another human being is if you full-well mean to end their life and then only if in inarguable self-defense. I amended that as I grew older to include if you mess with my family I will end you - period.
