Shop owners/employees?

Usually you are going to give up something to get something....and buying online has saved me hundreds of $$ on equipment I either could not find local, or was priced way more locally. Call it luck, but I have been fortunate in buying equipment from major online retailers that outlasted any warranty offered(usually 2-3yrs). Some brands such as Arc Audio can be bought online through their company website for less than in-store pricing on some items.

Called and the guy from same shop just recommended the alpine mrx-v70 over the xdi805. He said it would be much cleaner better sound being a/b vs d class...Don't know what the guy was talking about though cause alpine site says its class d like the xdi. It is $100 more though so...

Oh and the xdi has more output too so I don't get it...

Your that guy who walks in demanding a discount or you'll go somewhere else. If everybody got a discount no one would be open. Go to walmart and ask for a discount and see what they tell you.

you realize that those orders are fulfilled by the brick and mortar shop nearest to you right?

Yep I know they are in bizz to make money that's why I said reasonable...if their mark up is 20,30,40% then they have Tons of room...
try a 100%+ on most of the things they sell.kicker wire for $9ft and monster for $13ft hahaha.making a living is one thing but trying to get rich is another.one shop i knew would charge $200 for a basic sealed 12" box.then it was $35 for each angle if it was not square.A ported box started out at $300.

i look at ebay and see the same thing for less then 1/2 the price as in a local shop. Then I think to myself....wow and they still make money?

yeah yeah yeah flame me all you want. But there is always someone cheaper around the corner.

my brother inlaw talked them into dropping the price on an open box item! so its not impossible.

profit too cost ratio is why.

It's funny how everyone that has never owned a successful business always seem to have it figured out and think shops are ripping them off somehow do to there margins. I hate to tell you "experts" but none of you have a f'n clue what you are talking about.

Most shops are lucky if they make 35-40% on there equipment, etc. Lets see, you have to 1) pay your staff, 2) pay your rent, 3) insurance, 4) taxes, 5) training, 6) misc overhead, 7) inventory, 8) God forbid if the owners should make a dime

Like I said, you boys don't have a clue

Simmer down turbo...I never said I was getting ripped off lol...

I own my bizz and know all the costs involved but thanks for that...

Any business is better than no business, it is about supply and demand if the shop is busy and clients pay their prices and some bozo walks in to get a deal then it is up to the shop to work something out.

Almost any business makes double on most items, some even 3 or 4 times, like some cables and some accessories. But I agree when you have employes, payroll, rent, electric, water, inventory, overhead, the bottom line may not be the same, this is where small shops can sometimes give discounts or have offers bigger shops won't give, at some point just like you notice here on the classifieds, vendors need to move items just to get some cash to pay for other expenses or buy the latest, technology changes, and if business don't move their inventory it can cost them more money later on as some items may depreciate with time.
