Shop owners/employees?

I work for a shop and I will just ask anyone here this:

When you are on the clock at your job, how much is YOUR time worth?

How much does YOUR employer charge customers for your time?

I know for dam sure we charge FAR less than local mechanics per hour.

I agree to an extent and have no issues when clients push for better pricing. Normally I only see that on larger builds and such. However they don't go in with that mind set and you can tell by how the conversation goes. If you come in and when you try and haggle the price and is thought out, it gets you less of anything. Shops require that profit to stay running most of the time. What we are harping on here is the op's method of thinking not the actual idea of getting the price dropped.
And that there is where you are being too literal with my posts. You have no idea the thought process or mindset or how my conversations go. I have no preconceived notions that I will walk in break people down meeting all my crazy demands for pricing. Each and every situation is different based on the people involved along with the product.

I have absolutely no problem paying sticker or above but if the situation arises where a deal can be made you bet I will try my best.

Again I am sorry you are not following this conversation. If you were my child I would lake time out to help you understand this a bit more. Not being negative here, just saying I'm not going to spend all not trying to help you understand what we are all talking about. It just seems to be going over your head.
I seem to be a page ahead but I understand where you might be coming from. It's all good brotha...

I charge less then my competitors for most stuff at my bizz. I also know there are ways to keep and create more bizz.

Lulz. Change up reference?

Op what do you do for a living? I sell parts for a dealership, and unless a customer is a repeat or absolutely needing a certain part. I don't budge on my prices. I have to eat too. And if it comes between me getting a paycheck or me saving you $20 off replacement floor mats, guess who comes first.

Side note. I also give the hot chick discount when it applies

Do you barter when you go to Walmart or at a restaurant? You suggestion of compairing is off by a long shot. If you are not sure on values and how they apply, well I'm sorry for you.
Actually, according to the standard value of the US dollar, all prices are negotiable based on cash sale. It is perfectly reasonable to ask WalMart to lower the price of their Wheaties. You might get some special looks, but it is in our currency law.

yeah, I may have the worst case of untreated ADD that you can imagine lol. makes forum conversation interesting sometimes lol.
lol, i learned in elementary that i need to keep my mind occupied, usually 2 things at once, or more. they tried pills, and that just made me a retarded zombie. music helps, i work on electronics, hit the forums, clean the garage, and other things all at the same time on a regular basis. i digress, though....

really, if you want to get discounts, earn them. find a shop with good people, find rich friends and bring good business in with you. after a few g's in sales, they will most likely be giving you a percentage they can afford, without asking, and you should not throw it back in their face. you also have to realize that not all shops are paying the same cost from manufacturers. many negotiate the cost. i can tell you i had over 6g's go through the door before even making my first major purchase, and that was them giving me huge discount. i've been pretty loyal to them, even though i still look everywhere, and i often get things at, or way below cost. only chance of a first-time discount, is to look around at what you can afford, talk with them about the equipment, and your ideas/feelings about the system, etc, and when it is time to ring out, you might ask "what kind of price am i looking at" if there is a considerable amount being spent. many are usually inclined to throw a discount in there for big packages, or the prces might already be low enough. but, remember one thing: they are used to people regularly bringing up internet pricing, or box store pricing, so bringing it up will just annoy them. the owner should already be aware, and not be offering the same exact product, or has already factored in what that internet price is after shipping, plus not having to wait for it to arrive. otherwise, he probably wouldn't be in business.

All great points and always taken into consideration when trying to work the deal...there are many factors in this its not just being a douche walking up and saying hey online I can get it for $X what can you do or I will leave lol...
