Shallow or no?

Alright, I'm trying to re-do my system. I have no idea what type of amp I'm running to power the Subs. But I previously had two 10" TSW257D2 Pioneer Premiers. Long story short, they were robbed. I was on eBay and saw two 10" Kenwood KFC-W2511. So i thought in getting those, but then I thought what if they take up as much space as my Pioneers did? I'm trying to save pace in my trunk and make it bump. I have a 1999 Camry, but the car is a daily driver/family car. Then i thought about shallow subs. But my question is, what is difference between shallow and non-shallow subs. I can see the obvious, less space but in sound quality. Is there any difference?

I have a few Rockford Shallow Mount P3's in sealed boxes. I have tossed a couple in my trunk and they sound pretty good. Since I have not heard a regular size P3, i cannot give you a decent comparison, but if you are worried that they sound much different, I doubt it.

Shallow mount subs tend to be quite a bit more expensive however, so unless you really need the trunk space, i would go for a few regular size subs. Or if you need the space, just get a single 12". For the price you spend on a couple shallow subs, you could get a **** nice single 12.

The performance of a loudspeaker is largely based on the parameters of the driver. If you have two drivers that have the EXACT same parameters, they will perform the same irregardless of which one is shallower or deeper. There are a few shallow mount subwoofers out today that have similar space requirements (a lot of the time they're smaller enclosure requirements) and just as much linear and total throw as other subwoofers, which means they will perform very well. Take a look at the RE SL series or the TW5 for a reference. The depth of a subwoofer does not determine its ability to be loud or sound good.

One of the best shallow mount subs (from testing in the old Car Audio mag) was made by Clarion.

It was far superior in the lows than the Pioneer they tested in the same issue.

The Clarion's are cheap too.

Alright, so basically they are the same, its just mounting depth that i have to look at now. Thanks everyone, I'll try my best to find the best swallow subwoofer.
