Setting Gains

I have found links on this site to download tones but I don't remember right off hand where they are. Some people recommend -3db tones, some recommend 0db. I personally use 0db tones.
I found one of the links but it doesn't have a tone for my 4 channel. It's just got tones for a mono amp. I'll try using 0dB tones first and see, then move to -3dB if I don't like the 0. I'm searching around to see if I can find any higher test tones. If the tone is in the mp3 format, how do I know that it's really at 0dB or -3dB?

before worrying about setting gain go into your car take out the infinities and do the following

step 1 smash to death with hammer or set on fire (personal choice)

step 1.b take them back and save up for better

I use them as a rear fill. The Focals are the "focal" point of my system.

Oh, and by the way, you can't have a step 1 without a step 2, nor can you have a "b" without an "a."

I think I'd like to use a -3dB to start off with. Most recommendations say use -10 for rock and -6 for rap. I listen to a mix of both, so I don't want to use -10. I'd be clipping like crazy with the rap. I'm guessing that -3 will be slightly louder than 0 and -6 is even a little louder and so on, once you switch from test tones to music.

I will. I may end up making a -6 set as well, and maybe some other frequencies too. Do you recommend any others? I don't know if this matters at all, but my crossovers for my Focals are at like 3500 Hz or somewhere really close to that.

atleast i provided options for step one rather than waste the little amount of money you spent of the infinites by just destroying them. Also whats the point of filler if the speakers for filler and filling the air with shitty sq why not just go all focal instead of great speakers and shit speakers.

They're really not bad speakers. For a rear fill, they do the job. I barely notice them. If I have the music faded completely up front then slowly add the rear back in, I cannot tell too much of a difference. I've got them turned down a lot on the HU as well.

EDIT: I know most of you on here don't like Infinity products.

I went out and bought a Craftsman DMM. Turns out it only measures AC voltages up to 400 Hz so I guess I can't use it to set the gains for my 4 channel. It will be going back to the store. Any suggestions for a DMM that will accurately measure up to 1 kHz? A lot of the Craftsman DMMs that go up that high have an accuracy of +/- 2.5%. That could be almost half a volt off for my speakers. The max I'm looking to spend is about $50.
