Setting gains with DMM. Left and Right channels are different.

With this chart I have set my left channel on my amp to 19.7 volts. When I set the needles in the right channel I get a different number which I can't remember. Also the volume from left to right is noticeably louder on the left side then the right side (right side is the one with the lower number)

I'm using a Crescendo 1000c4 and some powerbass 3ohm speakers in the front. As for the substage I have 3/4 bridged and can't get an accurate reading with the DMM on that.

When I put the needles in the 3/4 bridged terminals, the voltage numbers are weird. If I have the gain all the way down it's around 5 or .5 volts, I can't remember. If I set the gain up half way the voltage comes up to 37.9v or so. Once I start to turn it up it barely gains any voltage and 3/4 of the way it stays at 38.2 and if I turn the gain on MAX it stays the same as 3/4th of the gain.

The chart asks for 44.72v for 500rms (the amp is supposed to do that bridged at 4ohm) and I can't even get anywhere near that number let alone over 40v. I have the headunit at +15 for the sub and all the graphic settings at 0 and sub system at 2. I set it to 1 and made no difference on the dmm.

What frequency test tone are you using? Hint: some meters only read AC voltage at or near the household frequency of 60 Hz. Anything way outside the 60 Hz range and they won't read worth a crap.

EDIT: In after lilboom

50hz for the sub. sine wave i think it is if that makes a difference.

deck settings are all at 0 through all 7 bands and the subwoofer is at +15 on a alpine 117. sub system 2

idka bout rca settings?

WOW. I used the 60hz test tone and worked wonders. Seen the correct voltage that I needed and set it just a tad under //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now before I had band 1 at +7, and the gain 3/4ths of the way up on the sub I destroyed.

I went to set the gain as I had it before on the old sub and noticed the voltage was in the 60's. Band 1 at 0. Now I put the band 1 at 7 to see how much of a difference there was and it jumped a good 10 volts. So put that at 70 volts. At that it's supposed to be 1200rms but there is absolutely no freaking way my amp will ever do that so I was clipping the hell out of that sub that was 300rms rated.

The amp does 500rms bridged and asks for 44.7v so yeah. I'm a huge *** nub and had no idea what I was doing. But now that I have a DMM I set the gains just a tad under what the amp and ohm load asks for. You learn from your mistakes and I hope I have learned one for sure.

Right now I have the gain on the mids and highs at 20.0v Just barely under a quarter of the way up.

As for the bridged channels I have it set at 44.0 volts. So it should just see under 500rms on 4ohms. The gain is at about 44%-48% so I don't think I'm clipping since I don't have a o-scope.

So should I be safe? I'm going to leave all settings as they were when I set the gain except for changing the HPF from off to 80hz whenever I turn it up to the volume I set the gain at. (26) I sure hope I'm doing it right. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
