setting gains with dmm for compitition use db drag

i am just wondering what people think about this way of setting gains for DB drags. hook up the dmm to the

amps speaker terminals with out the speakers meter on ac volts turn up gain untill you see the voltage stop

going up. i would think you would have to have a load equal to the subs you are going to be using to set the gains like this even for DB drag. anyways i seen some people doing this last weekend at a comp and have been thinking about it
