setting gains on kicker 1500.1

well yesterday i was setting the gains on a kicker 1500.1, on a HDC312 in 2.4cubes at 36hz..at 2 ohms...and during the "break in" period, i was setting the amp for around 850wrms (with a dmm)....

well to begin with we had sub level all the way up, bass all the way down before we began setting the amp.....the ac voltage that i was trying to acheive was 41.2V, which was 850x2(ohms)= 1700, and the sq. root of 1700......but in order for me to acheive the 41.2 volts, the volume had to be 3/4 the way up, and a small amount of bass boost had to be used along with the gain being all the way up......so i turned the bass boost a lil bit below half way, and the gain is still about 3/4 of the way up.....so is the reason that his amp isnt putting out that kinda power because of his weak electrical or somethin...(his electrical is stock with 4ga wire)

how many volts does the head unit put out. 2v,4v? I have the same amp and my gain is a little more than 1/4 and i'm getting full power. I have a Alpine head unit putting out 4 volts

all i know is that his h/u is a jvc, i'll check his rca's with my multi meter to see what kinda voltage it is....is there any special way to check rca voltage?..like do i use ac, with music playing or what?

Hope he using a test tone to check the above. You said all the way down on bass, well it should be at zero not all the way down. The EQ should be set flat which is in the middle not allt he way down because that would be negative. Let us know how it goes.. ALso remember a DMM isn't absolute matter of fact I wouldn't use one you need to have an ear for this stuff but being a noob a dmm will get you close but remember when changing music/types the level will also change blowing the adjustment out of the water.. JMHO...

Polo..

^^^yeah i know that setting an amp with a dmm doesnt mean it eliminates all clipping....but i've set plenty of amps with a dmm. and as long as i've set it at or below the power i know the amp is capable of putting out, everthing has sounded find...i dont have access to an o-scope and i dont trust my ears when setting it without a meter...

and the reason i set the bass all the way down, is because with it on 0, all of his mids and highs begin to distort...prolly something he did wrong..and i did use a 50hz -3db test tone

this isnt my first rodeo, so i'd rather you not call me a noob....
