Setting gains for Burps

personally, in my testing, i found my amps to be loudest on the meter at full gain. I then tested on the meter volume click by volume click starting low to find the peak setting. Usually it was at or below the half volume mark with sub level settings flat. x-overs were wide open and ssf all the way off. Usually one to two clicks above peak volume setting I'd start losing a tenth or two on the TL, crazy how that stuff works.

actually i've kept my gains at full tilt and just backed off the sub level quite a bit and ran my daily setup just a sub level setting away from comp ready...

gains full = clipping???
well not always! like crx said to test with volume.once you get your highest reading on the meter that is the volume you want to play.my 40.1's were always louder with the gain wide open like 3db plus louder then setting with a dmm.

also if clipping helps me beat the guy next to me well so be it lets clip the hell out of it.lol

also will it really hurt your equipment that much for a 4sec burp?if you have good equipment it will not bother it one bit.I protected the crap out of all my 40.1's that i ever had and all i had to do was switch them off and switch them on real quick and they were good to go.

Ah, I see. What I have going on is a PG xenon 1200.1 (or 600.1 if I can find one instead) going to be ran with the mod to get 2200+ off 2 SA-8's. Just wasn't sure about setting, not to worried about blowing them as I have 2 recones ready. So gains full everything else low and just work up the volume to find peak?

how do you plan on getting 2200w out of a 1200.1
I guess theres a way, you power up your system with the subwoofer wires disconnected from the amp, then wait a few seconds and reconnect them, and bam 2.2k
Yep, you can pull about 1200 with a 400.1, 1800 with the 600.1 and over 2200 with the 1200.1. Only can do it with these amps and can run all day as long as you don't go under 2ohms.

Just setup a delay to not have to reconnect everytime. Thread is buried in CA with a good delay to wire up and more info on it.
