setting gains and crossovers

hey everyone

I just got my perfects hooked up and I have a few questions

1. I was playin with my gains and the gain on my 4 channel alpine is down all the way and the jbl is at about 3/4 to full just to make the bass even with witht other speakers....why??

2. what should I set my crossover to (what frequencies for each speakers?)

3. about breakin these subs in...I am planning to not crank them up loud for about a week or 2 and play a few hours of bass test tones and stuff at low0med volume
