Serious Clipping problem

So, I set the HP Filter. The front has a setting and I set that to 80 or so...not really sure as there is a 60 mark and a 125 mark so set it between the two. Rear channel has no setting...it's either --HPF or OFF or LPF--. Now I get no sound through the front speakers at all and very high pitch on the rear. That can't be right. My employees want to know why I keep running to the parking lot. I think they think I'm doing something illegal.

put it back where it was and send us a pic of the amp settings, do it after work lol or on a lunch break i know you're excited, i get the same way, but its worth thinking it through

the rear should be on HPF, and the front on HPF

you have a problem with the settings in your headunit if you get no sound from the front

Why are you doing this at work?? Wait to get home to mess with your amp dials, lol. Or, at least wait until your shift is over

wait til after work and u can set hp at 125 thats fine just wont have much bass, make sure it'll all on hp, start at 125 when music is playing turn xover down little at a time til it sounds good, with no distortion

Two things; 1. Since I own the business there is no "Time Off', "Shift Over", and 2. Since I own the place the employees can blow it up their pipes...LOL J/K (in case one of them is reading this)

I'll check the head unit and see if low or high pass filters are set in there. Did not think of that but I know there is a setting.

This has been very educational. Thanks guys.

Well, I tried to upload a photo but running into troubles. The picture was not that good anyhow. I set the crossover to HPF on both sides. Set the HPF Filter to just above 60. Set gain back to high (equiv to 4 volts). Bass Boost is set to zero. It sounds better...no clipping at all. But a little tinny on my classic rock and roll. To be honest, I think it sounded better with crossover set to off. I'll keep playing with the settings this weekend to fine tune it all. Obviously on the right track now. Thanks for all the input guys.

you have the LPF on dummy lol, ive done it too dont worry @Sierra Nate

set your 2ch/4ch switch to 4ch since you have 4 rcas coming in, make sure bass boost's are all at 0, and make sure both switches are on HPF. do as boomin said and put the hpf at 125 and slowly lower it until it sounds good. id shoot for 80hz but be careful not to go too low. sometimes its a good idea to watch the driver as its playing to see just how much its moving.

here's a good read: Electronic Crossover

think HIGH PASS xover
LOW PASS xover

as in high frequencies will pass above this filters setting, and vice versa

have you set your gains properly?

I'll try that, but if that's the solution then it's a bit of a hassle as the Auxiliary input is under the face of the head unit. I have to open the face to reach it. Then I don't get the display to control the music. Why did Pioneer put the Aux Input there? Erg
I'm about to go run an errand and will try this and report the results later.
there should be another aux port in the rear that you should have attached a cable through and run it to the front and hide it somewhere.

As for your amp settings. Set it on full all crossovers should be done on the head unit, not the amp so putting on full disables all amp crossovers.

On the head unit you should be using high pass filter AKA HPF at around 80hz.

wew lad already covered the basics on crossovers you'd want to educate yourself in.

Uh, yeah, no I don't. It's set to HPF on both sides and it is set for 4 channel. It's just a bad picture and I can see how you'd think those switches are exact opposite of what they are. The lighter color looks like the switch setting but it's the darkwer side that is the switch setting. Its hard to explain...I'll try and get a better picture.

So I noticed while on lunch today that the port under the face is actually where you plug in the microphone used for auto adjusting the speaker inputs. That is not an Auxiliary port. So when I remove the radio to plug in the Sub...when I get around to adding a sub...I'll run an Aux cable from the back to the glove box. It would be good to have.

I'll try setting the amp back to default and set the crossover on the HE this evening. I'd love to hear the difference. But it already sounds better.

reason why you dont want any crossovers set on your amp is because your head unit already will put a filter in place. With a both head unit and amp together thats a double filter, you are cutting waaay too much and that leads to the tinny sound.

I believe there is an issue with these radios. Shop said I was clipping with almost no gain when we first installed my amps. Went and brought the SMD DD1 just to be sure and yeah. I've never seen a radio clip so early with almost nothing set. Want to get rid of it but it was nearly a grand (I believe in supporting brick and mortar when I have the funds to). Next radio will definitely not be a pioneer. I even had to loop filter to stop feedback. Even the rca grounding trick didn't work.

Well let me clarify. The deck doesn't clip at all up to 38 of 40 volume. Soon as amp are connect and gains are adjust from min, clip.

that's weird, never heard of that before since pioneer is known for clean output. maybe they cheaped out to make some money because they think theyre well known enough to be good quality that they can get away with it. any possibility of it being an external factor?
