Senate passes 800 billion dollar stimulus without 1 member readind the actual bill!!!

I seriously wonder if many people up here learned from the past this time around...
I don't think people down here did/will.

We didn't learn from $4/gallon gas.

We won't learn from this recession.

The only way we will learn is an equivalent to the Great Depression. But there are two key differences. (1) The poorest didn't care about the Great Depression. My grandparents didn't notice, nor care, nor read about it until later. They were poor farmers in a community that used barter before, during, and after the Great Depression. Now, those communities are gone for the most part for the sake of "advancement". I cannot cut power to my house in an attempt to save money, the government will condemn it. (2) People that have money aren't spending it. They are what's known as "savers". People who save aren't going to spend a lavish amount of money no matter what the govt does...thus these attempts to increase demand by encouraging savers to spend are worthless.

A nation built on credit cannot stand. It reminds me of a perversion of the greater fool theory. Unless we get back to the fundamental value of things, it will be bad news. Problem is, I don't know of a better place to go.

Look north. We are well known for our diversity (in fact, a common criticism up here is that we lack a singular identity due to the diversity of our population).
i might take jabs at canada, but i don't have anything against it. i have been to toronto.

We are also much more accepting of diversity here. All I hear from US posters on this site is "Assimilate, speak our language, be like us, don't dress that way, stop that religion, etc."
cold weather, high taxes, and lack of serious military infrastructure (my industry) make that not seem that great.

hmm where to start...

1. I agree we the news media needs to stay out of wars. Also the politicians need to stay out as well. Like stated before, civilian casualty is part of war. Look what we did to Saddams army who was at the time one of the better military forces. But then it became political. We haven't won a war since WW2 because of the politics.

2. Yeah Bush spent alot of money but he was fighting 2 wars.

3. In lest then a year we have created 1.5 tillion in debt not counting the interest we have to pay back. Thanks to the demcrats in congress.

4. If they really wanted a stimulis Bill, they would had taken that money and given it to the American people that actually work. Not fill it with Thank YOu for voting for me projects.

Barrack and the demos own this bill. Only 3 republicans voted for it and they are not true republicans.

I should clarify that I love this country, but I don't think it's the perfect place to live. Anyone that thinks their country is the perfect place for everyone...or the closest to a perfect society....well, that person must be delusional.

we also had a good industrial base, so we could produce our way out of it. it seems that we've shipped most of it overseas. of course, i'm not sure what % of GDP being industrial has changed since then. maybe our technology and automation makes it only seem that we have a smaller base.

i said we have the greatest, not perfect. the media concentrates on the negative, but as a whole, we have held the melting pot together pretty well.

We can only produce if there is someone to buy it. We "produced" our way out of the depression by WWII that sparker a hard recession not a decade later.

1. Stay inside, live on the lower West coast, or put on a layer of clothes. I find the cold invigorating and the warmth tiresome, but that might just be me. By the way, the major cities in Canada have weather almost identical to places like Buffalo (although I suppose for you that's pretty cold, too).

2. Is money the only thing you care about?

3. Not much need for it (although obviously that impacts your ability to be hired....but aren't you intending to be an economist or something in the financial field?).

point taken. i wonder who will be the first to start a war, to try to get out of their recession.

I focus on money because the problems have concrete solutions.

Economist, but not in the financial field like wall street. The financial field of defense. When your agency is a significant portion of the budget, it's prudent to have finance people on the team.

Merril Lynch thinks we are going to invade Iran if not later this year then next.

Flip, have you ever read The *********** of Power?
I have not. SHould I?

Is it the effect of taxation on you personally that you're opposed to, or is it a belief that the economy must be tax averse?

I see the significance...I just wasn't aware that you were focusing on such specialization.

Seems likely, and if it happens....boy oh boy....Obama will have some selling to do....even more so than this "bipartisanship".

I have not. SHould I?
It was recommended to me by a friend up here in a similar field. I haven't read it yet and was curious if you had. It revolves around most of the contracts defense companies received during Bush's WoT.
