Selling car with system... Am I crazy for doing this?

I've decided to sell my 1997 Civic EX coupe and was wondering if I was crazy for leaving a little stereo equipment in it? My thoughts were that I wouldn't get much for the gear, and I am hoping that the vehicle will appeal to a younger buyer with a little jam in it.

I am leaving the following in the car:

Alpine CDA-9885 with Ipod cable

Alpine Type R 6.5 with CDT TW-25 tweeter using the CDT passive crossovers in the doors

Soundstream Reference 700S to power the Frankenponents

Phoenix Gold RSd 10ds in a pre-fab Bass Slammers enclosure

Rockford Fosgate Punch P5002 to power the subs

To my surprise, that setup far exceeded my expectations. It won't win any SPL competitions, but it sounds way better than I thought it would.

Your thoughts?

Hmm, maybe I can use that to my advantage like the used car places used to do in their advertisements.

Here is my slogan: "I've lost my mind, buy the car, get the system for FREE!"

Ok... I need to work on that some more....

If you still have the stock stuff' date=' I'd probably put it back in. If he/she wants the gear, sell to them on teh cheapz.[/quote']
Sadly, the stock stuff is long gone and the equipment that is currently in the car is well used. I estimated that it would net me $200 to $250 if I tried to sell it separate from the car. That almost falls under the realm of not worth the trouble to try and sell...

how much are you sellin' it for ?
I am asking $3,500 for the car. This was the Kelly Blue Book value as of last Friday:

If the equipment isn't worth much, I'd leave it for the next owner. Like you said, it might make the vehicle more appealing to a potential buyer. I wouldn't expect to make much more cash due to the vehicle having a stereo, though...

Yeah, you'd probably put in more hours working to sell it. GLWS //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'll offer to take it out if they don't want it. Sadly, it won't change the price any. When I sold my 2000 Accord EX V6 coupe in 2006, this high school kid's father purchased it as a present for him. I left an Alpine deck and the after market door speakers, 6x9s, as well as a pair of Punch 250a2s in the car when I sold it. Kid was happy as could be to get the car with all that stuff.

True enough. One of my buddy's got a Kicker comp and 250rms with his old Nissan. He loves it.

If you're not attached to the equipment and you think you would only make 250 selling it outright I would just leave it in there. Like you said it could help motivate the buyer to purchase the vehicle however I wouldnt stress it too much.
