second battery

A second battery will help keep the system within a safer voltage "window" (12.5volts- 11ish volts). On a system in your power range doing the big 3 wire upgrade would help too. If you add a secod battery I would get something about the size of a Kinetik hc1200 or larger because if it is too small it may help out for a while but it will most likely fail faster.

You will probably see a more punchy bass line and you won't drop volts as easy to the front. Your alt will see a more constant charge and not charge spikes really. You cant go wrong with gettting another batt. I have 4 now lol and i don't think even one of them was an unwise investment. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

When I had my cavalier I had 0/1g Kicker Hyperflex running through my Kinetik 2400 battery to a Kinetik battery in the back, which was a 600, with the big 3 done in same wire and was good to go! My amp was an old school Lanzar VHC1100 ab amp, which sucked some major juice. I know because before I added those, tried stock and didn't work out so well, lol!

Doing the same now with new build, but buying some good used batteries with good standing voltage and Knu 0/1g wire and hoping for the same thing.

Don't have money to spend on Kicker hyperflex nor kinetik batteries anymore.

with my current setup (in my sig) i get slight dimming, and sometimes its louder than other times, so im thinking maybe my voltage is dropping. Would adding a second battery solve that? or make it louder?
Is your main audio wiring already 0 gauge and you've done the Big 3 in 0 gauge as well?

What size alt?

What size main bat?

The main reason for a second batt is increased reserve capacity. You should probably consider an upgraded alt, increasing the size and quality of your main batt, and making sure all your audio wiring and Big 3 is 0 gauge. After you've done all that, then you can consider adding a second batt for increased reserve capacity if you still need it.

I've seen many very good systems with only a good main batt, big alternator and good wiring that work great with no dimming issues.

Improve the quality of what you've got before you add more.
