sealed subs going ported?

my subs are recommended to be used in a sealed box.. what would happen if i was to port my box? the subs are Kicker Xpls. does any1 know anything about these and why come Kicker only made them for like a year or 2.. i know their not the best subs, but these are justw hat i ended up gettin a few yrs ago? which i thought i was gettin a good deal at the time cause they orginally costed 300 each i got them for half that.. so, i went ahead and bout 4 of themnow, i wish i had 600 to spend on something else..but umm, i dont

ok, ok...on winsid beta, there's a kicker X12 c4, but I don't know if it's the same...

anyway, according to the program, there's no significant increase with porting it... hmm...

Hey Jmac, is your sub alot louder? What would you think about 2 of those subs, 12" going from sealed to ported?

it really depends on if the suspension and the soft parts of the woofer can handle a ported box - you will more then likely have to drop power

would porting help me...right now i have 4 12 kicker xpls.. in a huge *** sealed 2 chamber at 2.96 (each chamber) box.. i know it should be 4 chabers, and the xpls specs is 1.0 to 1.5.. well anyways.. i have an epic 150, and im hittin right arond 150.. average is like 148..

how much of a differce would it make porting the box.. and this is in back of a sedan w/ the back seat down.. what else can i do to get more spl? should i try feelin the box w/ that cotton shit? to make it "pretend" that the box is bigger? wha other tricks are their?

The trick might be to make a new box, not just a big box, but a loud box...

no polyfill with ported boxes...

tune the prots a little high, like 40Hz or sometrhing...

if you plan to put polyfill in a ported box, make sure the tuning freq is about 2 or so hz higher. if the sub sees the box as a bigger on, chances are the port will stay relatively the same. the tuning freq will be lower with polyfill (maybe not THAT much, but all things should be considered ahead of time).
