Sealed box Question

I have searched for a while and can't find the answer I need. When building a sealed box will it make any difference if the box is a cube? Should the sub side be a different angle than the opposite side of the box? I have always been told that it can cause some distortion. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Any shape you desire.

Thanks Ultimate. I was considering changing the subs I have now for the 8200. Do you know haw the compare to the old 8100 series from Eclipse. I loved those in .8 cf sealed. They were tight and very loud.

Box shape becomes an issue at midrange frequencies where the wave length is short enough to fit inside the enclosure allowing interference patterns to form, bass wave lengths are far to long for this to be an issue, especially in a little sealed enclosure.

I don't know how they compare to the 8100, but the 8200 is built with a Linear voice coil. That allows much more control over the movement of the cone.

If you do buy the 8200, I'd put it in 1.5cubes sealed

They are completely different subwoofers. The 8200 being theoretically a better subwoofer. Which one you prefer will come down to personal preference.

And, as was mentioned, shape is of no consequence for subwoofer enclosures.

I had 4 of the older 88120DVC subwoofers (predecesor to the 8100 series)....good subs.

If you are going to be on the prowl for a new sub and enjoy your Eclipse's....check out http://www.Soundsplinter.com and http://tcsounds.com/tcproducts.htm

TC Sounds is the buildhouse for Eclipse, and builds both the Soundsplinter subwoofers aswell as now sells direct from the 2nd website I linked.

Just something to look into //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
