Screwed up electrical system...

Okay here's the story. I had a yellow top and a 220 amp HO alt from EA installed like a month or 2 ago. The other night I was driving home from work and bumpin, not loud at all just driving a long with the music playing at a low volume. I had noticed previously that my lights had been brighter than usual, including the interior ones... Suddenly the music cut off, my climate control module turned off, and my lights went out. The notice center had been saying check charging system (it says that when the system is not maintaining a steady or safe voltage), and it had been saying check exterior lamps (obviously my head lights). The dash lit up with the Anti-Lock Brake system light and the Air Bag light. I was pretty pissed... I did some checking it out and my distro block has a voltmeter in it and it ussually measures in the low 14's at idle. And tops around 14.7 around 2k rpms. I discovered that it was now measuring 15.9v at idle and it wouldn't measure it when I revved the rpms. The car does this on and off now and I took the headlights out and they are fried. The climate control module will turn on when it is idling but as soon as the rpms go over 1k it cuts off. What do you guys think it is? Perhaps the voltage regulator?

Sounds like the voltage reg. If its built into the alt, its over-charging and you can melt all sorts of stuff when you have spikes like that. Time for a new alt, unless you have a reg. thats separate from the alt......

yeah that happened to me before too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif except my battery blew up. so i would not drive with that alternator in there...sounds like the regulator also.

Yeah I put a diff. one in and am sending the other back to Nathan... It's still under warranty... My batt has been making a hissing noise tho and my battery light has been coming on sporadically... maybe I should call up optima?

that batt sounds like its toast too... yeah, look into a new one.
You might even think about making EA pay for it, since it was their alt that cause the damage.
I think I'm passed thinking about it and onto having them pay for it.

Well EA wont pay for my headlights that blew or the F'ed up battery and they wont give me my $ back for the alt. All they will do is fix the alt... That sux balls.

that does... the batt may not be toast though, on a lighter note. When i had to jump my car one time, i ad my charger set on 250 amp "engine start" mode, it bubbled and hissed and let out some sulpheric acid fumes, but it was fine and only just recently crapped out on me... i jumped it like 2 years ago and the battery is lie 7 years old this year.

He is on the hook for the damage to your vehicle as it was his product that failed. Did his warranty specifically say that it would not cover any other attached items? If not, sue his arse off. That is like someone hitting your car and only getting the panel repainted without it being fixed.
