Screwed over on paid car audio install, need advice!

in all reality the MTX Road Thunder 12 is a cheap entry sub.. a good set of RCAs cost more than one of these.. ebay a REx or something similar.. take $150 and buy a respectable pair of 12s after you bargain for a nice box.. afterall they should have sum responsibilty in you sub blowing and he already mentioned bargaining for a larger box..

specs on the amp?

Screwed over on paid car audio install, need advice!

Hi guys. Heres the short of it. After my installed systmem worked for a day, the next day the sub and amp do not. I take it back and the sub is blown and fuse popped. Now they say its my fault and not theirs - Please read all the background info below.

So, I took my GF's car in to get her amp, sub, and new deck installed a few days before Xmas. She had the amp, and 2x12 MTX thunders in enclosure from her previous car. She has a durango now - I took those components and bought her a new deck and had a local car audio install it. place has been doing business for 15 yrs. I want the sub to take up as little space as possible so he suggests a small unobtrusive enclosure for 1 of the 12's. Everything installs fine and I gift her her new system.

Heres the problem - The next day, the sub and amp don't work. I take it in and the fuse had popped and he said he put in a hot fuse. Switched it out and nothing. Then he checks the sub and says its blown - All was fine and the next day noting. He tells me the compact enclosure is the problem and to bring in the other speaker. He said we'd "talk" about exchanging the small enclosure for a bit roomier one but I got the feeling that I was gonna have to buy another.

CONCLUSION Now, Im no car audio guy and dont know squat about anything. I just want my stuff to work. As a small business owner isn't it their duty to to make sure what they are selling me will all work and the fact that my sub and amp worked before and now DO NOT now - that should be on them to replace due to their poor instal and set up. I don't know how to approach them fixing what is their fault. How could it be that I must buy or put in another sub due to their mistake. Not how customer service and businesses work.

Is there some way or terminology that I can use to tell them that hey, due to your bad instal you need to replace and put in what will work, not me stuck with forking over more MONEY!

they are not responsible in any way if the items were used dude unless they installed it incorrectly. if they were new thats a dif story entirely. if you came to my shop with used equiptment you get no warranty except for the labor but not the product, if you bring new you get the items warrantied yourself unless you buy it from me. pretty standard stuff man. now if they fubar the install and that caused the issues then yes they are responsible 100%

Thx to those with serious suggestions. For the elitests, I don't have time to waste learning car audio instal just like most of you don't have time to learn a lot of other things surrounding your lifes. Used oil is by no means an analogy for a fully functioning amp and sub. We used the 2 12 MTX Thunder 4500 and the Kenwood KAC 7201 for a year before selling the car and putting the audio stuff inside the house for a few months.

I ran back over to the instal place, had some words with the owner and instal tech. They replaced my sub and switched out the box on their dime. Proper business practices. Discussion closed.

sorry, but no

after some info he provided me through PM, i think the installer wired his sub down to 2 ohm and bridged his amp which isnt stable at 2 ohm. it would of also been giving the sub 2x the subs wattage....

i think the installer ****ed up and now is going to try and screw him.

they said it was not their fault.......But what was wrong, might have been a simple fix ? What did they say was wrong ?

For a stereo to work one day and die the next is not normal, did the equipment fail or did they wire up something shabby ?

this is how the game works, you buy the equipment at the shop and they install it

its warranted if you bring them some used shit they usually sabotage it and **** u

post 21 tells it all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifi kinda figured they fucked up lolz
yeah. didnt read any of the updates. i just responded to his PM and then decided to come here and update if he didnt get my PM. its really scary when shops that, like he said, have been around for 15 years and they make simple mistakes like this. even worse when their first course of action is to blame the customer, instead of checking their work.

glad it worked out in the end. hopefully tomorrow it all still works!
