Scary monster sub trying to escape.

Okay, stupid question. When I turn my sub up (CVX 12") sometimes it really moves. I mean like it's trying to jump out of the danm box.

From the drivers seat, I don't notice any bad sounds. Just loud bass. But when I open my back doors and get right in front of the sub, I notice... a not bass sound. Kind of like if I just tapped on the face of the sub with every hard hit. So I turn it down until it stops jumping so much.

My question is, is this damaging the sub or is it normal operation? Like I said, I don't notice any distortion or anything from the front of the truck. Just a hitting sound when I'm right in front of the sub.

I know I should probably turn it down and not push it, but I really like to crank my metal. I'm going to put another 12 in there soon, which I figure would take pressure off of the other sub and give me a little boost in volume to boot.

Also, this only happens in some parts of some songs. Like fast metal bass (Judas Priest) more than on groovier shit (Isley Brothers).

P. S.

Should the box get hot? My old sub never got warm, but this new one the whole box was pretty warm. The new amp was pretty hot, too...

U are bottoming it out... The coil is hitting the backplate... Turn it down or build a diffrent enclosure.. Maybe a sealed box for that type of music

not all distortion can be heard from when not infront of the speaker.

Yeah. But the chambers are sealed off from each other, so it's not like it's in a box twice as big as it needs.

SSF not set right?

I was just about to try to find out if I needed to set that. It seemed like it would rob the low end (cuts out everything under 25hz) You think it should be turned on?

It's in a sealed enclosure now, but I've got polyfill in there. Could that be a problem? I may have too much.

tinsels on cvx's are woven, and are insulated too.

when i first got mine there was a slight tinsel slap, but once the spider loosened a bit it stopped.

also my box got pretty warm, so did the cvx, i think its normal, it never blew or anything, and gave off a voice coil fart every once in awhile

You shouldn't require a SSF with a sealed enclosure. If you do, something else is wrong.
