SA-8 vs. 1508???

weeerd... any reason u want to go from 2 DDs in prefabs to 4 SA-8s??? I think if ur gonna get the SA-8s u might as well take 1 for the team and build a box to spec for the 1508 and put recommended power to it... then build same design box for a single SA-8 when u get them and test w/ recommended power... How much for the 2 1508s? vids?
For the record, when I bought them the guy threw in that pre-fab. I just metered it to see what it would do vs. a custom box built to spec. I have every intention of building to spec. Actually, I am doing a 6th order for them.

I want to do (4) 8's regardless of whom I decide to go with. I just need D4's either way. It's crossed my mind to buy a pair of both and do a heads up. And I still might. hell, I might just run both pairs daily. Who needs matching subs anyway? Lol.

yea I want to do 4 8s but i want to run matching subs lol Im going to invert them so I was leaning towards the SA-8 :p

IMO the suspension travel is pretty important especially when you are away from box tuning -- both drivers have almost exactly as much linear travel by 70% BL method based on the coil and top plate heights being about the same but the SA-8 will out-displace the DD in the end as the suspension allows more movement. Even at box tuning I've had an SA-8 moving 25mm or so one-way (that is when things start smacking) - I believe Tommy has done the same.

In all out SPL at tuning the importance is more limited but I am willing to bet if you compare one driver that can move 15mm vs. another that can move 25mm that you will see the one moving 25mm coming out in the end with other factors remaining equal.

As you can see... mass is not much higher on the SA-8 D4 comparatively (it has a thicker cone) but motor force factor (BL^2/RE) is much higher (75%)... suspension stiffess is quite similar between the two with the SA-8 allowing more throw. By design the SA-8 should be more capable of generating a higher maximum SPL. Both drivers HAVE produced great SPL scores, in fact -- the 1508 has been out longer so you will, of course, hear alot more about it.

I'd be interested to see Tommy's direct testing for sure, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am not remaining static on the SA-8 either... it is in a state of improvement... the next production run will feature bolted down spiders as this is the only area where I've seen failures to date in the hands of customers. I am also looking into an even stronger / higher throw surround (which will be available on re-cones of course) as this is the next limiting factor after the spider in extreme setups.
