SA-8 Prototype Is Here !

Quick question, is that the final motor structure look with the flat back plate like that? Sick scores though, I am almost thinking about scrapping my idea for two 12s and just run 4 of these to see what I can do out of the trunk.
Yah, that is final - just flat like the SA-12s.

Can you please measure the T/S parameters again after it's been well broken into?

Seems like this sub will do very well in a modified horn type as well as compression ported type enclosures.

Jacob, I need to get ahold of you.

Tuan,

I am a bit behind on e-mails -- if you sent me one I'll get to it as soon as I can.

I measured it again after my testing so far... Fs dropped 1 Hz so far. I think break-in will take a while on these to make any significant difference.

are these ran in odds or evens? and best if sealed or portedim feeling 4 8's in a ported box but i dun know wat demensions for a box to achieve full performance
Not sure I understand the first question...

But they are optimized for ported... you can go extremely small if you need to, 0.6 cubes is a good starting point each. Bigger is also fine.

SPL per watt testing (total power... divide by 2 for each woofer):

330 watts = 143.9 dB (HU @ -10 sub control)

430 watts = 144.8 dB (HU @ -9 sub control)

580 watts = 145.6 dB (HU @ -8 sub control)

750 watts = 146.4 dB (HU @ -7 sub control)

990 watts = 147.2 dB (HU @ -6 sub control)

1290 watts = 147.8 dB (HU @ -5 sub control)

1710 watts = 148.5 dB (HU @ -4 sub control)

2260 watts = 149.1 dB (HU @ -3 sub control)

3010 watts = 149.9 dB (HU @ -2 sub control)

Going to try -1 shortly after they cool off... I dropped a 4500D in the Jeep instead so I am a bit more flexible on power if I decide to put something different in for any upcoming shows. So I have the potential to put more power than I have before on them now.

-1 was too much with the 4500D -- woops //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have a few tweaks to production that should allow that sort of power on burps. Still didn't kill it thermally, though !

My single 15" box is even louder per watt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

FYI -- I sheared the aluminum former in two -- didn't break any glue joints or thermal the coil. I suspect I bottomed out my triple joint ring on the top plate hard enough that the shock broke off the former. Of course I had 2000 or so watts per sub at this point too -- something has to go eventually.

I will add a LITTLE more rearward clearance on production models so even doing that will be slightly more difficult.

wow, so their taking 4X their rated ammount? thats insane..

you should rate them 1k each for daily //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That is a bit much... it's still just a 2" voice coil.

After all... on right around "rated power" I was right around 147 dB... moving to almost 4x rated only gained me ~3 dB or so.

No need to stress the subs so hard for such a small gain in a daily system. I do like to push everything to it's limits for SPL, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
