so i wan to run a 3 way active mids and highs setup, i know with a processor i can achieve 8 channels but how is this achievable without one? headunit is alpine hde149. i will be running active at the amps as they have lpf, hpf,bp. do i just grab one of the rca pairs and use a y splitter? thats what I'm thinking but not to sure if its adequate

You will need RCA Y splitters. Make sure you buy the correct gender orientation on the ends so you don't have to use barrel connectors. 2 sets of 1 F to 2 M per pair of drivers.

Are you saving up for a DSP? You really should have one if you want good sound quality.

4 channel off the front out running your mids and highs. 2 channel off the rear out running your midbass. Each driver will have its own channel. Unless you have three 2 channels? Then you'll need a y or daisy chain.

you can just split any full range signal and then cut it with an active x-over from there or at the amp. I've got a line driver boosting and cutting my signal at 80hz into my amp, then i have BPF for my active mids and a second filter is HPF @ 120hz for my components. Rear speakers are actually off the same RCAs.

one thing you need to make sure of is that the left RCAs stay left and right stays right, it gets hairy if you dont trace them properly

loud and clear is my goal here not to much sound quality, i do want an alpine pxa-h800 but a lot of monies, thinking of the sound stream harmony in the meantime or maybe an audiocontrol xover unit.

Don't even consider an Audiocontrol piece when an 8 channel DSP is available for under $300 new. Minidsp C-DSP 6x8 is, at least on paper, a much more powerful and value conscious choice. PXA-H800 does a lot but if you're not an audiophile it doesn't really make sense.

You would pick that over a soundstream harmony?
@Jeffdachef needs to write a review on the harmony imo
Hes the one that got my mind on it, i just need something to give me x overs with ease and thats it. Nothing audiphile grade
